Plants Won't Finish...

First grow. 2 Northern Lights, 1 AK-48. FFOF using FF nutes. 600-watt HPS. Optimal temperature and humidity.

I'm on day 73 of flowering. The plants' leaves are mostly yellow/black. 30x jewelers loupe shows a few trichomes are yellowing, but no amber ones yet. Plants are starting to lose some of their smell and stickyness. Is something possibly wrong?

If it's only 70 days since you went to 12/12 then they could still need more time. The flowering times are a guide only. If you have certain phenotypes then they may just take longer. Alternatively, less than ideal growing conditions may slow down the ripening process.
Leave them a bit longer if there aren't a few ambers...bear in mind that there are different shades of amber. I've even seen pink trichomes on mine (where the sugar leaf had turned purple). Yellow could be as amber as they need to get to be ready.

Basically, it's not an exact science. What colour are the pistils? How full are the buds? etc etc

Edit: By the way. Are they black or dark purple. It could be they have an undiagnosed deficiency, though it's probably to late to worry about that now anyway. Cut em if you think they're done...if not then leave em...

The calendar should only be a guide, the glands are more accurate. You dont have to see amber to harvest. The main thing for me is that all trichomes are cloudy and the majority of the calyxs have swelled, pistils should be fully colored (different strains have different colors). The longer bloom the better for flavors to develop and the plant to consume its excess and turn it into a last push type effort of resin production. You have worked all this time make sure to not rush at the end.
