Plants too big for grow room

Hey Guys,

My second grow is going much much better then the first. I may have one too many plants for my confined grow space, I have counteracted somewhat by tieing up the plants a little but now I am faced with another problem.

What do you do when your plants grow so high they start hitting the lights? I have a 400 W HPS so its quite hot.

I am quite happy with the current height of the plants, if I cut the nutes will that stunt the growth? If so will it affect bud size?

I had/have this issue. Started flowering and a few were getting pretty close to the light (also 400w). Fortunately i was able to lower the plants (The light was at max height). I'm only in week 2 of flowering and im nervous that the buds that pop out will get closer and closer to the light. Already its only about 12-16 inches from the bulb and the buds have JUST started to appear. I would also appreciate any info on this.

The only reason i was able to lower though is because im using a homemade drip system. Next grow i wont have that option as im going to switch to aeroponics.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I am about 3 weeks into flowering... its amazing how they just shot up in the end of the second week.

I did also get a heat shielding glass system but it only does so much

Most strains will finish stretching within a couple of weeks of flowering (although this is not always the case, particularly with long-flowering sativas), so hopefully you are at the end of the stretch period.

If you have enough room, you can bend and tie the plants safely. Only top them as a last resort.

Cheers mate, must have let them veg a couple of days too many.

will have to redesign the grow tent usage tomorrow. I think I will build a flood and drain table to sit under my tent so I can take the reseviour out from the tent. Should give them another foot of room on top

"Bending" or "supercropping" is the way to go. I've been doing it to a Thai Super Skunk plant that had outgrown my flower room by at least a foot. You just need to bend a branch until it is where you want it. I put my Thai in the back of the grow room and supercropped it to grow around the sides of the room. Don't be afraid to really bend it...just do it slowly and don't bend it more than you need. Within a day the top will begin orienting itself back up towards the light.
