Planting Hermie Seeds

I created some beautiful seeds from two good strains (a purchased Male Seed here in SF and a purchased Female/Fem Seed from Amsterdam) I grew those plants together and created about 150 seeds. The strain is very special to me and love it, it's a different high. And everyone says WOW, it's a different high and ask me for it all the time, but that's besides the point. I've been running these seeds with two other growers for 3 years now with zero issues.

The very last grow was just one plant by itself (February) and PGNE had three issues cutting my power at three different times totally messing up the grow cycle. (Since then I have two big UPS and will never been an issue again). The one plant hermie and created seeds, and since it was one plant by itself, I just let it go trying to keep up with it but it was big and difficult and I got about 50 seeds from it, and smokable weed I keep for myself and keep picking out the seeds (dark with tiger stripes)

On JUNE 2, I put two seeds in a 5GAL bucket outside (for the heck of it, never grew outside) and I picked that date because I didn't want anything big to deal with. Now, I have 2 very healthy 40" tall plants in the back of my garage just dancing beautifully. It looks like my strain, acting like my strain and doesn't have any sacs on it (August 7, in California USA) and seems to be pretty much happy (I can send pics?) and I am using little fert because I don't care too much of it.

Is it going to make smokable weed? I've never planted a hermie seed from a single plant, and I know that the parents were great reputable seeds.

I'd be interested in hearing from someone who planted a hermie seed and having good/great results.

This person sold us 5 seeds. We grew one and it grew and we liked it, made great weed. We did the other three. (2 males, we threw out and got pissed) Then we grew the other and male again. We were pissed, but we did a lot of reading and we were like "we love the smoke we had, we love the height, we love the easy grow, we love the smell" - so let's cross it with this particular strain which we really love the high and everything about it - but it was too tall (hit my lights constantly). So we crossed those plants that grow. Made some beautiful seeds. Now, when we grow it - it grows 10" lower, and its a great plant. Everything about it. (We have ONE seed left from this guy) - and I figured now I have these hermie seeds - so if I get the same thing again I will have more seeds.

If not - then I throw them out and I have one MORE seed (hopefully M?) and I can get unlimited female (FEM) of the other strain. But, I'd be really happy if I can use these HERMIE seeds.

As I understand it, hermaphroditism is a mutation and from a seed standpoint--though common it's a freak so-to-speak.

However, when we grow seeds from hermies, the choice to be hermie is no longer a mutation or a freaky thing, it's one of the choices that seed could become. I guess it depends how much you dislike seedy-weedy :)

Originally millions of years ago it may have been a mutation or cross species breeding but since then it has been hardwired into all mj genetics and as such unavoidale and impossible to breed out. All seeds are hermies technically :-)

Really depends why it hermied. If you have been growing without incident then have problems like you said that forced it to hermie then your seeds could be viable. Only way to know is to grow some out and see the end results.

Great response - and seems to make the most sense. YES - it hermie because I know I had THREE light instances - causing light to be really wrong by hours as well as COLD to be really COLD. But when I grow the parent seeds under normal conditions, it grows well.

So I will keep growing these two outside in my 5GAL bucket until the FALL or I start seeing SACS on it. I've never done outside plant before. It is AUG 8 and I really can't tell if MALE or FEMALE yet. By what date should I be able to tell. (I thought a FEMALE HERMIED plant that pollinates itself will definitely have to be FEMALE)

INSIDE - I can always tell by day 13 after light switch.

Shouldnt be much longer before it enters flowering since summer solstice was around the 21st of June and the days are slowly getting shorter.

Please Tell me how you got to buy Male seeds ...

thanks
Dude do you have to be a dick to everyone? On every thread you reply to you’re being an ass to someone or insulting someone’s intelligence or integrity. People are here to learn, not get shitty remarks thrown in their faces.

I grew a single plant outside last year from a clone I got from a friend. That plant hermied very late and graciously gave me 25 seeds. I gerned 10 of them this spring and all popped. 7/10 were female and are about 8 feet tall at the moment. No sacs but nice flowers!!

As I understand it your flowering plant was put under photoperiod stress during flowering, and this induced hermaphroditism.
So it was a stress hermie. The seeds you got won't iirc have any greater likelihood to become hermies than the original plant did. They will be genetically identical. It's pretty much the same process as they use to produce feminized seeds, just with a different stressor, photoperiod instead of colloidal silver or sts.

I'm not sure about all this hermaphrodite stuff. I've never had anything good come from keeping them, and i've kept a few.

Sure, if you can bare the seeds, or be vigilant enough to remove all the balls, then fair enough, take it to harvest.

But they're impractical and a huge gamble for future seed. If you have access to other seeds use those instead, you're mad not to.

For what it's worth, feminised seeds didn't come from a hermaphrodite plant, they came from a female. Without chemical manipulation it simply wouldn't happen. True female plants don't possess the right chromosomes to do so, they need a pollen donor, or manipulation. It isn't something that can happen naturally.
Hermaphrodite plants possess both male and female chromosomes, this is what allows them to reproduce on their own.

Before people jump down my throat for disagreeing, look for the term Rhodelization in anything botanical from a reputable source, and not from a cannabis website. It's very hard to find and to be honest, i'm not sure i've ever found it at all. As far as i'm aware, it isn't a botanical term, but a cannabis growing one.
Look at the term dichogamy in botany, hermaphrodite plants can be sequential as well. Meaning those late flower balls are still balls, and the plant still had to possess xy chromosomes to do so. Hermaphrodite plants inflorescence can be complete or partial as well.

Is it really such a stretch to assume all plants that show both sexual organs and can reproduce on their own naturally, are hermaphrodite in the first place? The opposite would seem extremely hard to prove.

Edit: I won't dispute the importance of hermaphrodite plants for wild survival either, i'm not sure the plants would have survived as well without them. But for the grower they're PITA.
