plant trimming for more buds

At what point should I decide to prune my plants for more bud growing? I was told not to prune more than eight times a plant, but how do I know if it'll be good for the plant? Are there some plants that shouoldn't be pruned? If so, how do I know how to spot them?

I will sometimes cut off some of the lower branches to promote larger bud growth on the rest of the plant. The lower popcorn buds don't come out to much of anything and usually just go in the trim pile anyways. I do not trim any fan leaves, if it is dead it will trim itself.

I agree.... remove the bottom 2 branches and leave the rest. in flowering stage you want leaves to suport the bud to alow more bud growth on top of the leaves. BUT i normally prune about 1 week before harvest just so i get more light directly to the buds to cause them to swell a little, it is also easier to see when the crop is ripe when you dont have all the leaves in the way.

I mean no offense by this, but your plants look terrible. What are you using for lighting, and how far away from the plants is it?

ya maybe move the light a ton closer to the plants like a 2''-6'' im assuming ur not using hps or mh cuz of the way theyre stretching unless you have an underpowered light like 4ft above them

I agree that my plants look bad! I can't seem to get enough light on them. I put a lot of light on them for 18/6, and they burned up. Then I pulled my lights back and they stretched out. Maybe my lights are all wrong. I am using flood lights, but maybe not the right ones. Can someone tell me a specific name brand that I can buy and what to look for when I get them?

Mate no disrespect but chop those fuckers down and for safteys sake don't use that flood light anymore.
Get yourself a SAFE setup and try again...
We can help mate but we're not mircale workers..

Seriously thou why are you asking about trimming?
Is that just a joke pic and your've got some monster growing in another room??
If not mate the only trimming you should be thinking about is right at the base..

In that case mate,
Get some cfls and a os fan...
Deeper pots or 2lt bottles made light proof...

repot them but bring the soil level up to just under the first set of leaves...
get the cfls nice n close and get the fan blowing gently on the girls and with a little luck they'll toughen up..

If not there not gonna last 5 mins outside fella

I put the fan on them. Thanks. I don't know what cfls lights are. Please bear with my ignorance and explain them.
Seriously, there's waaay too much to explain to you here. Go to newbie central, read a couple of grow books, there's a lot to know. No offense, but this is literally THE most basic thing, and you don't know it. This isn't something that you can just wing as you go and expect any decent result. Scrap those things, painful as it may be and restart when you have the basic knowledge that you need. You'll be much better served.

Again, I don't mean any disrespect by any of this. You just have a whole lot to learn, and quickly if you want to save those seedlings. They will all flop on you in a few more days. They need real light, NOW. They need to be buried deeper so that those thin wispy stems don't collapse under the weight of the leaves. They need the proper diet, waterings, environment, etc...

Compact fluorescent lights

buy anything from 26 watts to 250watts, whatever you can afford with those amount of plants your gonna want alot

OR

Hanging Workshop Fluorescent Lights

I thought the plants grew on their own?

I have a sun blaze 42( 4ft x 2 bulb) and it does a great job starting things off but thats about it just starting them . My buddy has the 48 sunblaze (4ftx8bulb) and it does very well and is good enough to use througout veg not just to start if you have that type of room.. i also believe it puts out as much if not more lumens than a 400w mh would put out... I can get the 48 here locally for $150, they msrp for $250+ so expect to spend in that window. and they do come with the bulbs. hope this helps
