Plant Stretching. No Reason For It,I Thought.....

so i recently started growing under a Metal Halide. i was under t5's before. i noticed that most growers go for 2 weeks under a t5, from clone, then 2 weeks under MH. then flower, correct? well, i did 2 weeks under the t5 and the stacked up nice. super tight internodal growth. about 5-7 nodes in only 2 weeks and the plant was only a couple of inches high. GREAT! so i transplant after 2 weeks from red solo cups to 3gal square pots. every time i go from the t5 to the MH the plants seem to stretch. no matter where they are place, no matter the wattage. i tried this with a 1000w and recently with a 400w Hortilux Blue Veg bulb. a couple plants stretch less then others, but it seems like the first week of growth is only stem growth and it makes the plants spread out. after about 10 days it seems to correct itself, but its still something i did not expect to encounter with MH bulbs. and just for the record, the temps and the humidity are spot on. if you need to see a pic, i guess i could provide, one but a pic cant describe it any better then i just did. thanks in advance for any assistance in this. i want huge thick large stacked buds. large colas, not a cluster of buds on a stick. sometimes they start together, but most times when it does this, the stems elongate and make from no colas. please help!

Just curious... if a 1000 watt bulb causes stretch, why would you think a 400 watt wouldn't?

I generally go from flourescent to MH in a matter of 3-5 days. Once the sucker leaves open and the top pops out and it looks green and healthy, I move it to MH.

^^^^^^^^^^ I agree with the above post, alot depends on genetics....Not to mention the period mentioned is called "the stretch" for a reason.

when you switch from t5 to mh what light sch are you on and do you change it. if your on a 24hr they wont stretch. the more dark they get the more they stretch.

Shiz! Your answered nailed it! I do switch from a 24hr cycle to 18on 6 off. Should I root them into red solo cups and then flip to 18hrs or should I avoid the 18/6 altogether?

All other answers were appreciated. Thank you kindly.
