Plant Sexing

Hi All,

I am in the middle of my first grow using white widow from Nirvana. I am in the second week of vegging the plants. I wanted to check to see how long I should veg them and if I will be able to determine the sex of the plants while vegging? I would like the plants to be no higher then 3.5-4 feet tall...any idea on how high I should let them get before switching to flowering?

From Seed it takes around 30 days for the plant to become mature. When the plant is mature you will be able to tell the sex of the plant usually starts at the top of the plant and works its way down. Female will have 2 hairs/pistils like bud, and a male will have a scorpion tail(Water droplet looking)with no hairs. To be safe think that the plant will grow double it size once in flower so start around 2 feet if you want it to be 4feet. Worst thing is having the plant outgrow the area it is in.

I'm on my second grow, and I have yet been to sex a plant before flowering--then again, I'm no seasoned grower either. I have heard people say that they'll double in size once they begin flowering, but I have yet to experience that with my grows. Mine did hit a quick growth spurt at the flowering cycle, but only by about 4 - 6 inches or so, and they were 18 - 20 inches before I began to flower them. Even if you wait to flower them before sexing, you can catch the males early enough to where they shouldn't do any damage. Worst comes to worst, you may get some seeds for your next grow :)
