Plant in ground or leave in pots?

Hey guys. Doing my first outdoor grow this year and I was just wondering what's better? Getting some 30-40 gallon pots or just digging a big hole for each of them and planting them in the ground? Also any tips would be great. I'm in the pacific northwest and i'll have about 15 plants.

id go for putting them in the ground. last year i used 30-40 gallon pots an they stopped growing after a month bcuz they get big once they flower, id suggest putting them in the ground where they have all the room they need the only thing is you got to dig a big deep hole lol

Depends on your dirt. Hard to dig? Many rocks? I like smart pots this late in the season maybe some 100 gallon ones would do you right with min watering times.....I have dug out holes and had to put gravel in the bottom for drainage honestly the smart pots worked better just put them on some leveled out pallets....gets everything off the ground a bit too for when you are cleaning bottoms and middles, save your back a bit...

Raised bed or raised pots is another option you may consider also.

Dirt is pretty soft and doesn't have any rocks. I planned to mix the dirt I dig out with soil I bought and some perlite. Smart pots look great, would cost a fortune to put each one in a smart pot though. What are your guy's experiences as far as ground vs pots?

Personally I like the pots for lack of backhoe and auger.....I've done it by hand and it's a bitch like I said I put rocks down there too.

You can get that gunney sack material like smart pots and use as raised bed. idk where though seen it done this year just forgot where dude got it. He said it was tons cheaper than smart pots.

As long as the dirt is turned and loosened up should be good, mixing with soil and perlite would be better, i mix with foxfarms it has food in the soil and roots organic 707 formula is good for outdoor garden has food and coco fibers. growing in coco indoors is excellent. i have a small smart pot works better than regular plastic pots i may try out a bigger one do a side by side grow see what happens

I know outdoor growers from the SF bay area to Washington, and all of them use 5 gal. pots unless they are planning to grow 10 foot monsters.

Out here we can only grow six plants :/ so we go big! i know SF, Oakland, And Berkeley can grow more And Emerald Triangle. I like my cannabis looking like trees where i can sit under it and roll a joint N chill in the shade
