Planning my first grow. Would like some criticism.

you can tell if your liquid culures are growing because it will be filled with a downey sort of clear gell. What you cannot do is tell if they are contaminated as unless the mycelium is floating on top of the surface, it will not sporulate and it takes a hell of a lot of experience to determine one "white" from another and most mycelium is "white" in the first place.

If you intend to innoculate a large number of jars, do yourself a favor and do a few tests from your liquid and wait for a few days - at least until you get the feel for it as if you do a large number with a contaminated liquid you will wind up throwing everything out.

You won't like that.

Yeah, that's why I did the 6 test Jars :)

Here are some pictures of what looks to be a pin worm in my LC syringe? What the fuck? Is this scary? A few of my LCs have these things in them, so I'm not sure if it's common growth or I'm just fucked.

EDIT: L O L That thing is a piece of High Temp Silicon that the needle took from my baby bottles. No fucking wonder. And the size of the other ones are on par with the angle I took samples from. Hurr. Durr.

I got the remainder of my sterilized jars ready with healthy transfers

I believe these are just grains pressing up against the side of the glass, but I'd like some advice. Grains against the glass, or contams?

Thanks everyone.

grains.. very nice man
Thanks a lot, the encouragement from here helps a ton. I'm going to be taking two of the jars and fruiting them right from cakes.

The remainder I'll be using 30% Coco 30% Verm and 10% Coffee grounds -- pasturized, with 30% spawn and doing a slatting tek in 12.75x9x1.75 Pans. Should be able to get two started tomorrow night.

Sterilizing even more jars on Tuesday, hoping to have stacks of tubs with stacks of jars on hold to go when a tub finishes.

Two pans slatted and covered with tin foil.

One tub with 2 1/2 pint jar cakes covered in verm for a quick fruit (Halloween!!!)

Will post pictures soon.

We're coming along!

IMAG0249.jpg

Substrate, 1 pint Coco, 1 pint Verm, 1 pint Peat moss and 1.5 Pints of Golden Teacher to one and 1.5 Pints of B+ To the other.

IMAG0251.jpg
Golden Teachers, slatted and covered with Tin foil very tightly with tiny holes poked into the tin foil.

IMAG0252.jpg
B+, same way prior

IMAG0254.jpg
Hey daddy, did I do the FAE process right? =D

IMAG0255.jpg

Doing two 1/2 pint cakes in here so I can have a nice halloween :D

I think the cakes are starting to show signs of knotting. I think. I could be wrong, but I think!

Alrighty, so I looked into the casings today, and it looked like a slight chance of cobweb mold (oh, fuck) so, I went and got a beauty spray bottle (like for hair spray) and filled it with H2O2, lightly misted the thing and replaced it with heavy duty tin foil without the holes (realized, I'm pretty sure the holes aren't supposed to be there quite yet)

The Mycellium is spreading very healthfully and rapidly. The cakes are most definitely knotting in a few places.

Love goes to everyone who's helped me thus far.

Put some air exchange needles into my Jar LCs. Shot the piece of High Temp Silicon into the LC to give the myc a place to grow on. And I will honestly say this isn't the GREATEST idea ever, because I found a piece of myc that was ENORMOUS in one of my baby bottle LCs that... told my 18g needle to fuck off.

IMAG0257.jpg

Jar of Sterile needles :D

IMAG0259.jpg

That's everything I have inoculated.

6 Pint and 5 Half pint sterile jars sitting in the window right now cooling.
3 Pint and 4 or 5 half pint jars in the PC sterilizing.

Will be (hopefully) using two of those syringes to inoculate the jars in the window tonight. Though, i might have too much myc in the syringes that have been sitting for a week.

Though, the good news is my Liquid Cultures are coming FANTASTICALLY

Penis Envy spores from Sporeworks coming. Should have them in a week. I think I'm going to put these spores right onto Agar as well as LCs/jars. Hopefully I can isolate this strain quickly (not as worried about isolating the other cubes right now) to get fast growing, strong myc out of PE quickly.

Tis been a while. Bad things happened, good things happened.

Update on the trays: They conatam'd to SHIT. Threw them both away.

Update on the cakes: The cakes didn't do shit for about a week, then I realized... I should probably dunk them... So I did!

The two cakes are popping new shrooms out every day along with the ones that are growing... getting bigger!

IMAG0305.jpg

IMAG0306.jpg

This guy's cap just broke, should I pop it off, or just let it go and see if it gets any bigger? Edit: The mushroom got bigger, and the cap stayed the same, I ate it. =D

Started another set of cakes

IMAG0309.jpg

Have another slatted tray going as well, this time, I payed more attention to pasturizing the sub as well as put a small layer of grain on top of the tray. It has also been sealed a lot better with tin foil.

Penis Envy Update:

The strain is inside of a couple petri dishes. I have some growth going, but it doesn't seem very strong. Going to be letting it get stronger so I can better distinguish the strains and start transferring them

Ukrainian Mushroom Clone Experiment:

I took a really strong smelling edible a friend gets from family over in Ukraine, cut the stem up in a few pieces, soaked them in H2O2 for an hour then transferred them to petri dishes. One of the petri dishes took off growing PURE white STRONG mycellium. I'm going to attempt to isolate this strain and grow it soon.

This mycellium has a really odd way of spreading.

IMAG0338.jpg

Removing the slats in a couple of days, this is a mere 3 days of growth in the (contamination FREE) slatted tub!

Sorry for the blurry picture, will have better soon

looks fine, quit worrying.

This needs transferred as soon as possible, can I sterilize these shit plastic petri dishes? Assuming 15 minutes at 15 PSI

Harvested one and threw it in front of a fan today, first harvest! Will post it's weight when it dries (unfortunately I don't have a scale until I borrow one from a buddy)

No you can't sterilize the dishes, they melt at 250 degrees (the temperature of boiling water under 15 lbs of pressure)

After tonight, I'm giving up my strain isolation project for a while. I don't quite have the money for loads of petri dishes. Going to transfer the healthiest sections of the PEs to jars and the Ukrainian experiment to Jars and keep them for a rainy month.

You can use glass baby bottles, you can use baby food bottles as well - hell, I have over a thousand of the things - go to a big lots and get some baby food that you think would be fun to eat - they cost like 25 cents each.
