You could use an empty milk jug as a pot just make sure to put holes in the bottom for drainage and oxygen and cover the outside of the jug with duct tape or something else so that it is light tight plant roots don't want to stare at your lights all day, they don;t like that. As far as picking the buds technically you can do it as soon as they start but you should wait until they are gettign ready atleast 7-8 weeks into flowering depending on the strain. You should however wait until they are fully ready to harvest and then harvest the whole plant at once and then dry and cure them, which will take you another 2weeks-2months or so. The drying and curing process is often overlooked, but after spending all of that time and care on your beauties you need to treat them well for a good tasting smoth finish.

:joint:I wouldn't grow in milk jugs just because you have so many other more efficient things to use; but if thats what you want to use, make sure that you cover it up completely so no light can get to your roots. When light hits roots for too long they turn green and that is not a good thing. It will cause your plant to grow VERY slow, if not at all.

There is a lot involved in knowing the right time to pick your bud. There is not just some set time as to when the buds should come off the plant. Do a ton of research on this site, and you will learn that everything you need to know is on this site. READ READ READ my friend

how big of a pot?
Hey bud,you really need to read the grow faq on this site,i am not trying to be a dick but you need at the very least the basic understanding of how to grow before you drop seeds, being that you dont know what pot size to use i'd say right now you do not have a basic understanding of what it takes to grow buds.

Growing weed is not very hard but it does require some effort to learn how to emulate natural growing conditions.

Start with reading the entire grow faq.

Ok. I read the entire GrowFaq guide and that really helped.

But it didnt say how long it takes for a plant to be fully matured.
So how long does it take to be fully matured and ready to be harvested??

that info is SO in the grow faq... lol.

The total time a plant takes to be ready for harvest depends on when it's put into 12/12 and forced to flower- but It's like 60-80 days after you start flowering.

Read the faq again.

Start out in party cups(you know the plastic blue and red ones) and transplant when you think the roots are filling in a lot. You don't want to start out in a pot that is too big because the roots will have to work more to reach your supply of water towards the bottom(top of soil dries first), and will not grow as quickly because the plant uses all of her energy for root growth, and not foliage.
So remember transplanting is a good thing, but be very delicate. :joint:
