Ph pen

Just wondering how often do you guys calibrate your pen? Just checked mine as noticed some young plants was looking a bit yellow on the lower leaves. Thought it could be hunger but for their size they are getting plenty. Checked the pen with some buffer 7 and got a reading of 6.8. Thinking will it do any harm to just calibrate it every week?

I used the buffer solution to calibrate my pen and my plants were hating me. I bought a cheap pH test kit and my pen was out by alot.

Not all pens are created equal.

It’s also about storage of your probe.

some require storing in KCi solution when not in use.

some in distilled water.

some in pH 7 solution.

I used to calibrate mine every week when I used to use one for hydro.

after stopping hydro I switched back to a simple dropper test kit.

the best dropper I’ve found is the SERA PH TESTING KIT.

I use a $40 made in china pen. I check it with 7.0 solution when I begin and it usually needs tuning.

Use the drops.......they're never wrong.

Apera PH60.. have calibrated it twice in like 5 months now. . thing has been a great buy.

I dont pH anymore but I have a Blue Lab pH pen though if I wanted to check. That specific model has a checkmark indicator on it letting you know if it needs to be recalibrated or not. I was recalibrating it as needed.

Once a month maybe a little sooner would probably be OK. If you have the energy and time to calibrate once a week then go for it!

And the blue lab ph is one that required KCi storage solution.

i had the blue lab and the KCi

I keep mine in the 7.0 calibration solution when not in use. Never had to calibrate after the initial calibration. Like said above, not all pens are created equal. I really liked the ATP pen that had the little screw on the back to calibrate it, but I dropped it in the water and that was in the end of that. So I got a water proof pen and I’m satisfied with it. I Like the fact that it shows temp and ph at the same time.
