Perlite

What does perlite actually do then people? is it the same as root powder or what, My mates got an AK-48 growing in his bedroom just using natural light, it's not going to bud but it's about 4-5ft tall, he says he used "root-powder" whatever that is to get the plant started off, what's root-powder and isit the same as perlite?

I looked up perlite and it comes in different forms, how do u guys use it in ure grow rooms?

edit: is it possible to use 100% perlite and 0 soil when growing ure plant and iz it effective? in what form? powder, rock or .....

no perlite are those lil puffy white balls and you use more soil

this says its rock and powder stuff, i live in the UK so what do I have to look for when buying it? how much does it usually cost?

perlite looks like little white rocks, but is very light and fluffy

you can use it as draininge by adding it to soil or use it alone in a hydro setup like a drip system

I always thought perlite was used to keep the soil light and fluffy, full of air for easy drainage and so the roots move easier.
