Pc grow idea !!!

so lol i go over designs in my head on a different style grow room that i would wanna try and how id do it so heres my idea for a pc grow

2'L X 9"W X 2'H PC case

a 150 watt hps

a 4 inch inline fan

2 pc fans

a cool tube

power strip

a fish tank carbon filter

a dryer vent outlet

small sheet of sheet metal

roll of mylar

and various odds and ends( wire tape plugs etc)



okay my plan would be to cut a hole in the back wall to mount the inline fan with the dry vent on one end and this is where the carbon filter will slip in

then build a false wall to create a mount for one ed of the cool tube and the inline fan and the exhaust fan for grow area

the other side will have a small mount for the cool tube and intake vent for the cool tube also

on front wall id mount the intake fan for the grow area and the socket for the HPS

in the bottom on the back side will be the HPS cap ignitor and ballast being cooled by the exhaust fan from the grow area and also a power strip for plugging every thing in


in theory the separate intake and powered exhaust should dissipate the heat created by the hps, and also the 10% lumen loss caused by the cool tube glass is really not a big deal being the box is around 1.5 sq ft, the fans in the grow area provide circulation as well as cool the ballast and other components , the fish tank carbon filter i think would do well for the smell, and with a screen mounted it would be easy to do a scrog grow with this set up also line the walls with Mylar and seal for light leaks

well what do you guys think im gonna be starting on it in a month or so when the current grow is done

looks like a solid set up, a HPS bulb may be extreme for a PC grow though I like how you accomodated with a cooling tube, i was thinking of doing the same thing...

lol thanks for the comment yeah thats why i put some thought into the cool tube i figure with heat never entering the area it should be east to keep the box cool and i got it sorta figred out to be 13,000 lumens per sq ft in the box ... the sun puts out approximitly 10,000 per sqft hehe ... i came up with 13000 because you lose 10% lumens with a cool tube so u start with 16000, take 10 % you have 15000 somethin and divide in to it and got 13000 so i think it would grow some nicely id prolly have to grow a strain thats more accustomed to growing in high light conditions 12/12 from seed and train the hell out of it

yeah but its my way to run a hps and keep the temps i want i found both for cheap so its no big deal and i cant find anyone whose running a 150w hps in a pc box so overkill or not at least i wont be fightin temps the entire grow rite??

use a smaller hps?? like 100w or 70w and trust me if grown right those little pc cases can do just fineee

ive seen them with 70watters but i wanna run the 150w and total cost is almost nothing the ballast bulb and socket 46 bucks then the bake around is under 10 bucks the fan is bout 25 bucks( a marine blower puts out 170 cfm) the filters are like 6 bucks a box of 4 , the other fans a couple bucks the sheet metal i have the box is bout 15 bucks for me and say another 20 for the misslenious shit so bout 125 buck total to have a decent box that has the light to produce good tight buds equalling more weight and quality IMO..... the reason its overkill is cus it hasnt been done yet( to my knowledge hehe) and why not push the limits to raise the bar of micro growing hmmmm ... and yes it would be my first pc grow but def not my first grow by far so i think its totally doable

I think it may have been done before i remember reading on another forum but with 2 pc's stacked. or hooked up together. SOme very cool shit going down with these Pc stealth grows. Infact im gonna do my own soon when i move ( moving now ) coz some people are getting real results.


I remember seeing one guy who liked the idea so much ( not so much for stealth ) but as a unit he did like 5-6 just in a row haha yielding some danky shit.

exactly the reason i wanna give it a go with all the guys doing it i figured what the hell, honestly i could care less if its stealth im jus gonna build it that way as a challange to have a grow contained in a PC case lol so in a month or two ill be tearing down the closet and pouring my time in to the pc i think ill build one to see how it works and if i can get it down to a 2 month cycle and every thing goin good ill build 2 replica boxes and start and harvest one each month ( ie perpetual grow) muhahahaha

If you're serious about this grow and you want to do it right(aka not in your parents house), then get a 70w HPS and a used Server Tower off criagslist or ebay like this..

and strip out all the inside.

cooltube is a good idea but 150 watts is a lil much i'd grab a 75 or 100 watt they will cover the area more then enough for great growth

clearly your not gonna lose your parents house over a PC case in YOUR room hidden from anyone knowing what it is...if your lawyer couldnt get your parents outta harms way

The people are right, you're gonna be fighting temps, you should just use 27w CFLs, and have a couple, you wouldn't run the risk of burning your plants inside there, and the cool tube is gonna use up even more space, why not use that space for multiple CFLs? Just a friendly suggestion, but just beware if you're gonna leave it in your house alone for a long time, a 150w in a PC could get way too hot. If you still want to use HIDs though try the 70w ones. Hell you could even do CFLs, and supplemental LEDs that are cheap if you DIY (not that over priced UFO thing) if you want to keep light in there.

first im not in my damn parents house its mine ive owned it for awhile now, nothing was ever said bout my parents home , the only reason for the pc case idea is because id like to try it i could care less about stealth , second i'm a welder fabricator by trade and certified diesel mech... so im pretty sure itll be no problem to build a grow case ......

okay now to the useful comments can you guys explain why 150w is a lil much?

a 70w hps puts out 6300 to 7800 lumens to me thats not enough to justify buying the ballast to run it there cfls out the i could get if not use some i have(like the 68w ones i have)


even on the low end of lumens the 150 would produce a lot better for the price.....IMO

Yes but it's overkill for the space, I had VERY well ventilated space that was bigger than a PC grow box, and it was way too hot. i understand i could do cfls lol im actually using 292watss of them at the moment in a lil bit bigger space lol

the reason that the cooltube is involved to keep the heat out of the box rite the way it will be set up with the higher cfm inline fan would be to move air from outside the box thru it and out the otherside without hot air be exposed to the grow area..... with the other circulation fans ran thru the grow area it will keep that cool and also the ballast rite....

but how come is it overkill its the correct amount of lumens for the space size according to the research ive done and im pretty confident that i can keep it cool with the design? is it overkill in your opinions because of heat issues .....?

i know people that use 150w for boxes 7 times the size of any server tower and their buds couldnt be better

just seems like a waste of power...

if i remember correctly from my PC grow i never had to move my plants with 82w's of CFL up or down and didnt have much stretch
