passive ventilation system help!!

Just a tip for next time you replace your filter, get the next size up. Never have a filter with a smaller airflow rating than your fan. Stresses your fan and it counter productive. Looks like you have a stubby filter (300mm length) so next time get a 600mm or go up a size in diameter and use a reducer to make the duct fit. The extra cost in filter should make it last a bit longer to balance out. More surface area = more carbon to soak up those magical smells.

As for the hood, if you can, invest in a cool tube, or make your own. Perspex tubing is cheap from ebay. Cover the top half in mylar. It won't be as good as the real thing reflector wise but it will certainly drop those temps down. Looking at your light, you might even be able to just set the reflector you have on top of the tube. Just make sure the bulb is properly suspended inside the tube and not touching the sides, unless you like the taste of melted plastic on your buds ;) Set it up with the filter on one end, the fan on the other, light between the two, and you should notice a massive difference as the heat it getting sucked from the source.

Of course being summer doesn't help much. Good luck dude. Keep us informed.

Im thinking for right now ill just crank the ac my ac system has a shedual so i can sync it with the light so its colder when they are on. I will be popping some holes in the wall to help with the air flow also. These are my only option for now because mone is tight and. Wont be buying more gear and if i do later i might just go with an air cooled hood even tho i didnt want to lol.

Im going to pull the old closed reflector and maybe it will stop temp from climbing so rapidly and give the whole set up more time to keep cool. Ill let you know how it turns out and thanks for all the advice thats awsome.

update: ok so i got my old closed reflector (non air cooled) threw it up and its staying at 80 with the a/c on so i think the change is helping alot ill try some more things to bring it down a little more i wish i could get it down a couple more degrees but i guess i cant be too picky since i dont have an ac on a temp controller that would be ideal. damn im glad i didnt get the 1000 watt the shop was trying to push off lol! id be in hell right now!:D

central air will definitely bring my electrical bill up so next go im grabbing a portable ac unit...
