ok ive been putting the finishing touches on what im using for my grow box and didnt think about it till now. is partical board ok to use in a grow box? i dont wanna say what the box is yet cause its a suprise for my first grow log ill be starting soon. but i had to use partical for the back panel and the inside top+bottom panels. after dealing with it a little bit the partical board doesnt look to reliable. ok heres my few questions

will the partical board rot from the moisture or whatever in the box? it wont come in direct contact with any water.

and is it possible for me to give it a thin coat of silicone or something to keep it from absorbing moisture. not sure if that would leave toxins or something crazy

i wanted to get this taken care of asap if its gonna be a problem because the top peice of partical board will be holding the lights. its only 12 cfl but i planned on making a custom hanging fixture for them so that will add on a little more weight

seal it with a lacquer (internals only) ... thin coat should help protect against moisture
In hindsight ... probably not the best material ... but I did the same thing ... lol

Just keep it clean ... clear up any spills ASAP ... should be ok

Is it paretical board or OSB . Theres a difference . The paretical board will delaminate and crumble when you touch it. Osb well swell but still retain its stablity . My advice would be if its paretical board then replace it with a piece of cdx . If its osb then dont worry about it.

its partical im pretty sure. i decided to just give it a little more support and throw layer of waterproof silicon over it then paint. my main worry was the board being to cheap and the hooks for the lights falling out. so problem solved for now unless this solution is a terrible idea. still waiting to get my brothers camera :(

As the moisture builds up in particle board it swells and the glue starts to let go. No fastener can hold up to that. I would lose the particle board. When I built my 2 rooms I used studs and cheap 4' x 8' whitre paneling ($8.00 at Home Depot) and I have not regretted it. It was a little more work on the front end but it has served me well for several years.

Bro your set up look pretty nice . You did a great job on the box . I would suggest going 12/12 from seed to keep the plants short or do a LST . Not alot of room in there.

i planned on scrog i have 35in h - 31in w - 16in d of grow space.between lights and soil tops ill estimates 2 ft high of grow space. but since im not buying seeds for the first grow now im debating a quick small lst of about 10 plants so i can hope for 4 or so females. my original idea was to sex them early pull out males then reveg females to setup for scrog. but from what i read and responses to my post it doesnt sound like a good idea

Hell give it a run . Only time well tell. But I do believe your ladys will be crowded in there . In my first grow box was 36"w x 24"d x 60"h and I ran a 10 plant sog 12/12 from seed in 16 oz cups . Yeild wasnt massive but it was enough to keep me in smoke between grows. Average was 80-100 grams a grow . Thats dried and cured weight.

i wanted to just make a box so i had a 5sqft floor to work with and use 1sqft per plant for 4 plants with 1 foot leftover for overgrow and room to work around in there. it wouldnt of been as stealthy though and after eyeballing the dresser for about a month with ideas i gave in and used it. i found a pot in the garage its 8inx8in and 6 of them would fit awesome if i could find some more similar to it. so my choices are 3 bigger pots/plants or 6 smaller anywho im stoned and rambling im gonna mess with this light fixture and try to change it around more to my liking

I built my first reflector out of plywood and rapped it in mylar . Still works great for my clones . Used a vanity light from home depot and a couple Y sockets . 6 42w 2700k cfls since then I switched over to 2 65w 6500k for rooting my clones .
The 65w bulbs are $15.00 at home depot and use a standard house hold 120v light socket.

ya i looked at them and a little to pricey for my liking anymore then 4 of them and i would of prefered to just buy a hps. i went with the 26w bulbs around 50$ total for 12 2700k and 8 6500k bulbs. the 6500 were more expensive then the 2700. around $2-2.50 per 2700 and 7$ for 6500 2 pack. couldnt find any bulk packs of the 6500k :( for flowering ill be using all 12 2700k with 2-4 6500k added in there depending on temps and space and yada yada so somewhere around 350 watts and 20k lumens (bulbs are 1750 lumens)
