Parallel or Series - second guessing myself now!

I bought 2 CXM-22's and an HLG-185H-48A from cobkits.

I should be wiring these in parallel or series?

I'm second guessing myself now.

driver has forward voltage of 43-53

Cobs need 33.5 min and max 37.5

Cobs current is 1280 - 2560 mA

Driver can adjust from 1950 - 3900 mA

So I want to parallel these Cobs, and turn down the driver's current to about 2500mA, which would run the cobs in a range that won't burn them out in a few months.... right?

Ah, that's where I went wrong... wrong data sheet.

These cobs are 48 - 55 forward voltage.

parallel... voltage is constant, current is additive, max current is 2200 for these cobs. Max current on the driver is 3900, so it can't blow them in parallel, but it's running them pretty hard.

Unless I'm mistaken the CXM-22 is a 36V cob so you're good there. In parallel they would use 1.95 amps each so about 70 watts each. Not sure what kind of efficiency that will provide but it's within spec... just keep em cool.

Cobkits site lists the cxm-22 gen3 as a 50v cob.

I sent him a message so I won't hook anything up until I hear back. Don't want to blow anything :P

I looked around and you are right. Gen3 is going to run 51-52volts at nominal current. Older datasheets show 36v so they must have made some substantial changes.

At 1.95 amps the voltage will probably be around 54 which is pretty far out of spec for the driver. Whether it will light up or not I don't know.

just woke up and saw your email.

yes 50V cobs, with 2 cobs on that driver they'll prob top out at the drivers limit of 53.5V which should be 85-90W if i recall. nothing wrong with running 2, most people run 3 or 4 on that driver to put its full 220W to use
