Overcured weed

I like mine fresh. Dry it and smoke it. It's super smooth and all the terpenes are still there for max flavor. I think that weed grown well doesn't need a "cure". If I sure it for a long time I don't think it gets better, I think it looses flavor. But thats just me, smoke it how YOU like it. :)
This is exactly how i feel....just my opinion though.bongsmilie

Less nose on the terps and more of a "weed" smell, like plain old classic pot smell. And I haven't cured like that, think it's worth looking into?
yes, iirc the correct term for process is called sublimation. for what is worth the flower doesn't lose any color at all & stays very bright & flavorful.

Anyone ever tried a water cure? I have had weed that tasted terrible but it got you fucked up, one time for example a buddy had an outdoor harvest that was way too green from nitrogen in later flowering. I took the dry bud and put it in a glass of cold RO water with something to keep it submerged and let it sit for several hours changing the water at least once then dry it on a paper towel. The water turned all green and the formerly green harsh buds would dry out to be brown and still sparkly with trichomes. Smoking it was very very smooth without all the "green" flavor. It can be a good way to salvage bad tasting weed that still gets you fucked up.

Nope never tried that but ive givin them baths because of mites. Thats an interesting way of getting rid of the green flavor. Of course , for some dumb stoner reason , i think the stuff i have to give a bath drys quicker then the regular.. :eyesmoke::roll:

If your bud takes months to be smooth and taste good you need better genetics. Like Renfo said it should be good from day one.
I can understand what you say if you smoke only commercial hybrids like OGs and things like that, because there isn't that much difference between the bud the first week and after 4 or 5 months. Still, if you don't find differences between just dried weed and 2-month cured weed, I would suggest you to find the way to refine your perception. You are missing good stuff. Do you smoke it alone?

There are many strains out there, and there are some, believe me, that need a long cure just to work. Just to get you high. Example of that? Any sativa landrace, and very sativa-leaning hybrids. I'm not talking about commercial sativas like Super Silver Haze, Jack Herer, Amnesia, Kali Mist, etc. I mean real sativas like Mextiza, Panama, Destroyer, American landraces like Punto Rojo, African landraces and their hybrids. You can smoke a just dried ton of any of these sativas and never get any high.

The high these strains provide is energetic and active, in the brain, not physically heavy, and it is subtle compared with the heavy effect of commercial hybrids. To develop such high, a proper curing is mandatory. Never less than a month. This weed I found in the cupboard is one of these magical weeds, and after some joints I find it very satisfying.

I did it some times just to have the experience. I wouldn't do it again. For making the most of a failed harvest i would prefer to make an extraction. You lose all the flavor anyway.

Well I dunno about that. Just for shits and giggles I took some juicy fruit bud that had that classic old school juicy fruit gum smell and water cured some of that. It lost the green flavor but it still had an amazing juicy fruit flavor that came through clearer without the greenery. I think a lot of those terpenes are by nature an oil thus less water soluble than the chlorophyll and whatnot but I am just guessing. I also think that if one did water cure and wish to keep more of the terpenes that you have to use cold water and let it soak in the fridge. I would imagine that warmer water would tend to grab more oil? We even blasted a bunch of that stuff because it had the terps but it was a sorta green tasting very leafy bud structure. But yeah it's not a go to thing.

i think the stuff i have to give a bath drys quicker then the regular.
You know I have always noted that if a bud takes say 5 days to dry after chop, after a water cure 24 hour soak I gently set it on a paper towel and cover with a paper towel and it's dry to a crisp in less than 48 hours. So i do see some faster drying.

Anyways sorry for hijacking the thread with this crap lol...

i know nothing about the water curing but i am guessing your right in the warmer water leaching a "cunt hair" more good stuff out. I was looking at one terp the other day and the boiling point of that terp was only 68* F.

It is astonishing and funny how quickly a thread can diverge from its original meaning!
when considering overcuring what happens to the chlorophyll ? i have had flowers in jars for awhile that turn gold, is that considered overcured ?

They are overcured, or just plain old, when they have no freshness. No flavor and not a nice effect. It depends on you, but the weed is overcured the moment you think about throwing it into the garbage bin.

I believe the best moment to smoke our weed is about 2 or 3 months after harvest. I believe the peak in effect and flavor comes around after two months curing, but it depends on the strain (landraces, for example, need much more time). After that, you start to lose quality of effect, specially in sativas. And what you gain in smoothness is lost in flavor and aroma.

For some reason probably related with my stony brain, I forgot quite a lot (about 80g) of a fantastic sativa I harvested more than a year ago hidden in the bottom of a cupboard. The curing start date is registered as June 26th, so slightly more than a year. The weed is a Mextiza, sold by CBG years ago. A fresh, powerful and energetic sativa from Mexico.

Fortunately, after a year it still holds flavor and smell, I'll try to make a conclusion after I smoke all of it, but I guess that this weed isn't to be as good as it was some months ago. What do you think?

There's no such thing as overcured weed. It's more likely it just wasn't stored properly. If your weed loses flavor after two - three weeks it probably wasn't in optimal conditions for curing or the jars were burped too often. If done properly the cure makes the flavor more refined and the smoke smoother. Long cures can go on for years but the conditions have to be optimal for curing the whole time.

Not true. Some are so new of strains they don't even have 6 months to cure. There are strains that need curing to get the best taste and smell but most I know of are best fresh cured. Like 0 to 3 weeks.

Please, come back when you learn more. The fact that you don't know what overcured weed is doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

6 months is probably too much for many strains, specially commercial ones. But, going to the opposite situation, I would never pick a just dried weed over any well-cured one. Like one or two months of curing. I believe the sweet spot for most commercial weeds is somewere between 1 and 3 months.
