Outside Growing Experiment

I have a spot in my back yard where no one has gone to in the 15 years I have lived there.
I also have a lot of extra seeds.

Just as an experiment I am starting a few seeds right now to grow outside. There is plenty of light still for vegetative as I am way south. I am guessing it will be 6 weeks before they flower.

What kind of results should I expect? I have never grown outside before and this will be a ridiculously short time.

What is the first average freeze date there? With shortening daylight hours don’t expect much serious growth. How much actual daylight do you get right now and how many hours of that is on the intended grow spot?

I'm in the Kansas city area and my outdoor plants are well into budding. I'm not sure how much further south you are but I would be very wary of planting outside right now unless you have plants that are already well into veg that you are wanting to move outside.

I am not far from the Mexican border.

My grow room is full. The seed I am using are well over 5 years old. Out of 10 perhaps only 2 sprout. If nothing comes of this all that is lost is what water I use and the soil. No sympathy is needed in the event this fails miserably.

I regularly start a round of tobacco seeds this late and they grow well into December. Occasionally it never freezes at all during the winter. When it freezes it is normally in late December or January.
