outdoor growing in the cold north

57 degrees north of the equator !:-( know of all the obvious autoflowering strains and a few other types that don't mind more mild climates but wondered if anyone has had much success with regular strains (indica/sativa) ? have good location but just need advice on strains?!? thanks ~sssam420:bigjoint::leaf::weed:
 
Green house if possible : start early with supplemental lights and early light deprivation. search light depot in this forum. good stuff.

know about obvious options just wanted suggestions on strains that have short flowering periods with mould resistance but not auto's but thanks anyway lol ~sssam:bigjoint::leaf::weed:
 
What about Durban?
Maybe look at an atlas and see all the places that lie a similar distance from the equator, as yourself.
Then find out what strains grow in those places.
Durban is a similar distance (to the south) as I am (in the north)
ergo DURBAN should be a good fit....in principle....???

From the little I know about outdoors in Northern climes....
By the time that the days are short enough to trigger FLOWERING
It is quite late in the season
And the COLD starts before the FLOWERING has time to complete.

A way to manipulate the start of FLOWERING a little earlier would be best.
Auto's are one way - genetically manipulated.
Blocking any more than 12 hours of light would be another
(possible to do in a greenhouse or even a VERY PRIVATE and SECLUDED outdoor plot - using a giant tomato frame and a cover)

Well obviously it didn't sound like you knew about it. You had to ask what strains to use which is variously obvious you don know shit or was looking for a wonder strain.. You could of googled that. If I could post smiley's I would. This isn't directed torwards JJ, but Indicas won't always save a early climate. Better yet, you should just move to the Bahammas.

Why?
Indica are more likely to have dense bud clusters - dense clusters are more prone to bud rot.

Indica's do not start flowering with more hours of sunlight per day than Sativas.

I see no particular reason why Indicas should be chosen over Sats, in this situation.
But I'd be interested to know your reasoning on the subject.

Not always, but indicas tend to all finish early.....er.....

Indicas tend to finish sooner.......

as JJ said, The shortest Indica I know of is 6-7 weeks opposed to a Sativa at 12 to 16 weeks or longer.
 
just wanted to see if anyone who had actually done this outdoors in similar climates had any shared experience sorry if i didnt make that clear enough ~ssam420

WHY NO AUTO'S, SAM?
Auto's seem superior in every way (specially for outdoors in our shitty climate)
but they cannot be cloned - so starting a Mother, about now, and taking a shit load of cutting off her, mid-March, isn't an option.

Is that your thinking?
Something you can grow as a Donor Mother???

Remember that seedling, on average, are 25% stronger than cuttings.
Growing from seed is always best for plants that will be grown outside in our climate.

So BOTH INDICAS AND SATIVAS NEED THE DAY TO DROP TO 12/13 HOURS OF SUNLIGHT BEFORE FLOWERING IS EVEN TRIGGERED....
THEN INDICAS NEED 6 OR 7 WEEKS TO COMPLETE BUT
SATS NEED 12 TO 16 WEEKS -JUST TO FLOWER!!!!

WELL THENS IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO BRING A SAT TO FLOWER IN THE UK OUTDOORS.
12 WEEKS LEFT WHEN THEY START TO FLOWER IN SEPTEMBER....???

They wouldn't be ready before Christmas
or about 6 weeks after the frosts and harsh winter conditions had killed it.

pretty much yeah i want to clone a range of strains, plus im bored with auto's used them too many times! plus i want to make bubble hash and therefore need a big crop to make it worth my wile lol always think the strenght is decreased a bit aswell
 
He screams out help on repeated question (which doesn't bother me) and it was offered, then he turns around and basically says F you .

Basically yes but to mature to full flower.
 
I'm at 60 degrees latitude and while I've never finished photos this far north I had good success last summer with Dinafem Auto Amnesias. I know you said no to autos but they've come a long way and if you veg them inside you can finish a couple crops per summer outside. I averaged 2 dank z's per plant and they were better than any purchased weed I've seen here yet.

I've also finished a number of outdoor crops- C-99, NL x C-99, Afghooey, Blue Moon Rocks, JTR and others at 45 degrees N. A lightly-heated greenhouse was required to finish them. Most could've gone longer but all produced good bud, and up to an LB per plant.

Is light deprivation an option for you? A guy called Backcountry has posted about the nuances of that elsewhere, just google "Backcountry Forcing Bloom". Good luck!
 
And generally regardless of the 12 hour thing Indicas will start to flower before Sativas. I had an Indica this year start to flower in July and a Sativa start in Sept, A hybrid I harvested in late December and she sill had a ways to go.Frost and rain brought her in.
