Organic Indian Grow!!

A Big Green Hello to all fellow growers from me and my plants!

Am very new to growing canna and I would love to be a part of the family. I have been smoking up since high school, but never had success in growing a plant. Now, the times have changed, the perks of my job and my location has given me plenty to choose from.


Am from southern India living & working in an organic environment where we have our own bio-fertilizers, vermicompost, organic manures and as such. I am attempting a shelf grow and a box grow with cfls. Am not running anything hi-tech as security and money is an issue. Still, am trying to give my plants a healthy life.


I had been collecting seeds from various stash I got. Some from hot and hilly areas, some from cold chilly places. I have no idea what strain it is or male/female plants till now.


Story till now, 5 plants, 2 in shelf and 3 in box (young ones). My oldest plant is 3 weeks into vegging young ones sprouted last Sunday (took 7 days to germ, maybe because of the cold temperature) Had some rot problems so older plant was stunted. Trichoderma saved it's life from the rot and it is now recovering.
Oh, am growing in a coco-vermi-forest soil mix. No fancy nutes, all organic Grow medium has been inoculated with Trichoderma as well as Phosphate and potash solubilizers. The insect pests are being controlled by Beauveria and Metarrhiza. I haven't started giving any other organic manures yet. The shelf has two cfls, one 15w & 20w. I know the lighting is really poor, can't afford venting so.. Because of the poor lighting the plants growth rate is slow. I was also wondering if I use a red colored lamp, will it help me in providing Yellow 7 Red light required to give a full spectrum along with the Blue?


Am watering according to the drying up of top layer of medium ( hesitant as there was rot earlier, relying on Trichoderma though). Our room temperature is 19-22 degrees, pH is 5.9-6.4 which varies as it's raining heavily. Wondering if I could harvest rain water rather than water from our own dams ( it is rainwater though).


I am finished with buying weed, saving money to make my grow good enough.


Want all your support and feedback, am still a kid when it comes to growing; got much to learn from you guys.

Im pretty new at this too it sounds like u have everything u need. Alls i got is regular soil, light, and water. Havent been able to grow till a couple months ago but i started from seed i had. And i started it with the 12/12 flower light cycle so its small but its now flowering. Sounds like youll make it good. Keep it updated and check out mine too.

badass man! coco/vermicompost/forest soil sounds like an awesome mix w/ good diversity...do you have any aeration in there? (rice hulls, pumice, perlite, etc.) that might help with your rot issues and overwatering.

you can definitely harvest rainwater and IMO i wouldn't worry about pH in organics...you should be good to go all the microlife in your soil will buffer pH effectively and make it a non-issue.

one of the things you should do ASAP is try and source neem seed meal (also called neem cake) and neem oil from a producer in your area. all of the neem products we purchase here in the USA come from india, so you are a lucky guy to be right at the source karanja meal/cake and oil is acceptable too, both karanja and neem have very similar levels of active compounds which are systemic pesticides and fungicides...not to mention "fertilizers" in the sense that they have a N-P-K value.

are any of your plants outside, or are they all under CFLs? you should try and get some outside if you can although i have no idea what your area is like and who could potentially see the plants...

not sure about the whole blue/yellow spectrum thing...i usually use only 6500K blue lights in veg and I am very happy with my growth.

random question, but are there any aloe vera plants growing in your area? these could prove very helpful in the future...

also, if you want to learn as much as you possibly can about organic growing, you should go to this website: Simply Organics and start reading. Anything posted by "Another Old Coot" is worth copying down and saving.

Am still tryina figure out how to comment n all as am using my phone to browse around! So u started 12/12 from seed? Coolio!! The soil here is too sticky, holds water well, maybe too well..hope yours have good drainage. Also you can add worm castings to your soil I guess.

I am expecting some neem oil from my buddy maybe tomorrow. My Beauveria didn't have spores yet, so I think am better off with neem to fight those flying dudes of hazard and disco gnats which popped up here and there. I tried a bit of "Turmeric Powder" which my mom uses to fight against ants and nosy little bugs. Have to see how that turns out, it has fungicidal actions too, so am a bit worried about my Tricho. Am a bit shy of posting my pics, as I have seen enormous lights and setups throughout the site

I'll do it today morning though. I don't have perlite/rice thingy, they are next in my list. Its monsoon here and am living in a mountain top, outside planting is a no no. Too cold and too wet for germination i guess. I had 3 plants outdoor. One was eaten by deer, I saw it visiting two three times(maybe it liked the buzz) two were cut along the other grass for cattle feed. Am waiting for sun to shine so I can plant outside. Watchful eyes evrywhere, civil & official. Am extra careful though
Aloe vera doesnt grow in our climate, havent seen one. Maybe i'll bring from home. I'll keep you posted

I had 3 plants outside, had two true leaves and their demise happened. Now it's monsoon here, non-stop rain and roaring wind+ fog. Too damp to get em sprouted. But ma bro got 3 out of 10 seed germinated.

We were planning to do a forest grow too as soon as mr.sun comes out.

I'll need all the help I can to keep them healthy and the grow stealthy.

It's a forest, all wild animals,pests, you name it..it's here. So i'll have to leave the plant to mother nature i guess. Let's see..

Shelf Grow- The yellow powder is turmeric Middle one is germ bottle with coco and the third one is nearly one week old. I am expecting some gnat problems, you can see the tiny eggs (i removed them though) hope neem oil would help. I don't have Bti till now. What am doing is pouring some fungal mycelia of Beauveria, the gnats/larvae will eat it up as well as roll in it. Expecting that mycelia will be on their skin which will do the trick.






Box grow- 3 young ones sprouted on Sunday. See the red bulb, that's what I want to know. If it could complete the full spectrum of light.


No organic manures/compost tea yet. I was thinking of switching the shelf grow into 12/12. Or shall I wait till I upgrade my lights?

Hope my plants forgive me for treating them with low lights... One I don't have the pic, it sprouted Sunday as well, but the leaf seems stunted, curved and shrinked. It's sitting there in my window- south facing room.

Yo Organic toker, if you hav not, read up on thesouth indian sativa landrace ...being landrace it had adjusted to the specific enviroment which makes it very difficult to to inside. ..it just dont listen! whats your electricity situation?? Peace!

I did some reading about land races. I got this seed from north india, Bengal to be exact. They have huge trees there, i'll try to get a pic if possible. Am trying ma best to do with it indoors. Ma bro sprouted some outside as well. Haven't checked them and the rain is giving hell lot of trouble. The seeds had tiger stripes, looked so beautiful.

So it cannot be grown outside? U sure it is sativa? Hmm.. I saw ur grow outside, the big plant which was topped by a cow..

I don't have to worry about power consumption. But money is a big issue to get some lights.

I'd love to listen to your thoughts.

I saw some gnats and did a neem oil drench. Shit got out of hand, the plant seems to be wilting. Leaves have discoloured. I did two flushes with fresh water. The climate is crazy, damp damp damp.

Rain is not stopping at all. If i do a transplant, the plant will be stressed right?

I gotta do something.. Help!

Get Cinnamon sticks and jalapenos, cut the jalapenos up and put them with sticks in water and set for week stir use little in soil.worked for me no spidermites.

I transplanted the plant just now. Haven't eaten anything, ws busy with work..The soil got neem drenchd big tym. I changed to just coco and little bit of vermi compost. No soil this time. I don't think the plant will survive..

Because of gnats, i panicked and used neem more than required. Thanx for da jalapeno trick; though jalapeno is not readily accessible here

Fingerz crozd..this plant has been a survivor. It survived root rot with help of trichoderma..now I am the one who screwed it. Feels so sad man... Wish i cud wake up tomorrow and see it recover.

Yo! sorry to hear, have u thought about growing any autos? Easy to order easy to grow..will sort out your stash in 2 month time!! great quality smoke, u will need that special constructive thinking to tackle the challanges with the local seeds..

me i got only one survivor outside this season, went on holidays my staff couldnt take care of the best ones unfortunalty (tot 4).... some other seeds picked up in danish freetown christiana will go under cfl inside in a week, its seeds meant for the indoor growing. got great vibes about them..

for now sorted with a great stach of charras

gotta go for a ride before rain comes back, dropping a longer post little later!
give me the latest!

Hey chong bro!

Thinking of growing the sativa bro. If it goes good, I was planning to keep them short by lst. Topping or defoliating won't be my options. If am lucky i'll root some clones. Am searching for aloe vera in the forest
It was Cann's advice. I read later a thread too. Awesome organic way of growing weed or any plant as a matter of fact.

Sowed some outside today. No rain, still a bit of sunlight and fog. Hope the sky clears up for a week or so.

Charas is nice! You have to get some from Nepal or Kulu-Manali. They are the best I ever had..

Dear all,

My oldest plant won't be flowering in this life. One more germinated, so as one falls another rises.

If my guess is good, it is sativa as well. This time i'll be patient and keeping a close watch till they veg for some time. I know sativa will be hard for a first grow. But I have a feeling, as they are adapted to outdoors, where there is more pests and environmental conditions; their genetic traits will be existent in their young ones as well. So even if make minor mistakes, hope they will recover and grow faster. Forgetting evrything about strain for now. My aim is to grow it as healthy as possible. I like the sativa trip too

P.s- I got some stash last day. Total couch lock stuff! Me and my bro think this is Indica for sure. Very few have seeds though. I'll post some pics too. Am depending on bag seeds because we have plenty of varieties awaiting us. Let me try what my country has to offer first

Inspite of the harsh climate, yes..me and ma bro planted some seeds yesterday in the mountains. We are above 1500 sea level. All the plants i had outdoors were never in the mountains, where nobody else goes. But we do have the wild life as a potential threat. Depending on the conditions am hoping for 50% germination out of 6 seeds. Been thinking if i could germ and veg indoors and then transplant outdoors, then take a clone and flower it. Thoughts and plans don't work usually.

Go easy on the charas mate remember an indian brotha when you get high...! Ride safe too, it's frigging rainy here, so am always walking (stoned)
