Organic Grow Questions

Does anyone have knowledge or insight on using rice hulls that may not be par-boiled? The hulls are definitely food grade as I acquired them from a wine brewery. Will rice sprouts pops up in the soil?

you should be fine as long as there isn't any seed mixed in with the hulls

I occasionally find a rice plant pop up in my soil. It's ok, they're not going to hurt anything.

And no seeds that i can see in plain sight. I didn't think it would hurt but of mind ( who is an organic/chemical type of guy ) told me it may not be good because roots could get tangled and, or it could begin to battle for nutrients etc

I then thought to myself well then why do people use seed cover crops....... i just have to see how it goes when i test it... Thanks again

nah... tangled roots?
nah.
A battle for nutrients only if it's rootbound. I have a cover legume crops that are in my soil as we speak.
the legume is super green and my cannabis plant is super green.
Now a certain amount of common sense is assumed here.
don't go overboard.

Hah. I have that problem with my wormbins... I don't mash up and puree my ssts enough, and I usually will have a sunflower plant or two in there...
All pissed off and pale from being grown in the dark...

Plants actually help each other out by sharing exudes, warning each other of danger, etc. It's a good thing to have plants working in symbiosis. Just take a look at nature, or as you said the entire concept behind companion planting.

I just recently acquired some rice hulls and I have lots of rice sprouts in my pots. They don't seem to be hurting anything yet.

I may cut them down in a few weeks and use them as mulch. I figure the roots will feed whatever's below the surface too. I hope it is a good thing.

Hello any organic soil growers still starting seeds in rock wool cubes? Wondering if i could just use pure R/0 water the pH is a perfect neutral (7) but i was taught to soak rock wool in pH between 5.5/6. But i wish not to alter the water with any chemical pH down or up.

Anyone out there ever brewed a barley seed tea for longer than 24 hrs ? Timed the watering wrong and may have to stretch it another 12 hours before stopping the tea bubbler.

i had a few seedlings suffer from some heat stress due to a/c being turned off for few hours, i have removed them from there original light source (200watt) to a 40watt light i also transplanted them from tray to containers and foliar sprayed and light soil drench with a barley seed tea with a little bioAg.

Its been 4-5 days since and i was wondering when is it safe to put them back under the original light source, 3 out of 4 seem to be recovering with pretty slow growth but at least their growing, one is completely stunted it seems like.

smell it first, if it smells like vinegar its gone bad, then chuck it, if it smells ok, you are ok.
