Oregonians...tell me about Portland

I live in the PNW and I visit Portland every so often....I'm actually thinking about buying a second house there. I love the restaurants and of course the cannabis scene, too. But, let's say you could live anywhere around Portland that would allow you to live in peace and harmony...where would it be?

So far, I'm really leaning towards the NE area neighborhoods...near Mt. Tabor...or the Hollywood area. I definitely am not a Pearl District type of fellow -too much hustle and bustle for me. I'm more of a cognac in front of the fireplace on a rainy night type of guy!

I don't want to deal with living on a steep hill when it gets icy -too old for that!

Looking for a nice, up-to-date, OLD house...Don't want a new house or a modern style house.

Also, I may be interested to build a cabin in a surrounding area with easy access to Portland...Do any of you know of such a place...or places?

Any "inside" information and what to avoid and all that is greatly appreciated!
