Optimum ph for soil?

Hi everyone, your opinions would be greatly appreciated for feed ph and run off ph in a soil grow, thanks in advance, happy toking.:?:
 
I think its around 6.5 hydro is 5.8...I may be wrong but since nobody else wants to help there ya go
 
6.5 they flourish.. So if ur soil is 6.5 from watering than how do you get a runoff of 6.8????
 
I"m curious RE: what upthearesenal said..how do you get a runoff of 6.8..is that b/c the water dilutes the soil and or nutrients.

have you ever had a runoff the same as your soil? i recently had problems and got myself a nice kit, and once everything was stabilized the measurements i've gotten with this pH tester has shown me that the soil is 6.5, and the runoff is always slightly higher. consider the runoff as more than just water, it contains nutrients, soil matter, and waste.

but really, it can be the type of water you are using. it is possible to have pHed water and it can come out with a lower pH, for instance, if it's well water
 
I flush the pots with soil before I plant or transplant clones with water phed at 6.5 and let them sit for a day to fully pack down and get ready for planting, than water with food/water phed at 6.5.. Run off is usually 5.9-6.3. I use all 6 fox farm nutes throughout the grow
 
yeah, FF nutes will drop the pH, you can always compensate for this but adjusting them a bit higher.

what kind of soil mix are you using? if you add dolomite lime to it, it would greatly buffer the pH.
 
well I am using promix soil.. So ur saying when I use nutes set the PH higher. Like 6.9 or 7 so the run off is higher?? Won't that bring up the ph of the soil to that number as well??
 
Your runoff should be the same as whatever you are pouring in, assuming your soil PH is 6.5, and you are feeding at 6.5, then your runoff should be 6.5, ideally. That shows that everything is consistent, throughout. Personally, I keep everything at 6.7-6.8, but you can choose anything between 6.2-6.8, and do perfectly fine. Many guys stick with 6.5, which is accepted as the norm. :) I, of course, am abnorm. :razz:

I'm just confused on why my ph runoff is so much lower than what I'm pouring... Possible nute build up I'm assuming
 
well, if you're using water at 6.5, and your runoff is lower, then your soil is acidic. so bringing the pH up a bit in the soil won't be a problem. it will rise a bit, but if it's that easily fluctuated then you need to add a buffer. i use promix bx which has dolomite lime in, yours should have some too, but again, i'd recommend adding more.

what are you using to change the pH? if you aren't using something natural it can harm the mycorise in the promix.

I totally forgot which brand of promix I get.. It's white bale I think, with orange in some spots... I forgot.. I'm using general hydroponics PH up and down

damn, i thought you were the OP, my bad.
yeah man, that stuff isn't great for the life in your soil, try something natural. and there's also earth juice up and down and other natural adjusters you can buy.
 
yeah I didn't mean to take over this thread lol, I was just curious to the reply that your soil's funoff should be .2-.4 higher than what your feeding it.. I haven't had n e issues that I'm aware of with general hydro up and down.. Is it really that bad? What exactly is the issues with using gen hydro with soil
 
i don't want to make it sound extreme, because i don't really know how bad it is. although, it's safe to say something like that is not good for the beneficial organisms in your soil.
if you have well balanced life in the soil, it should buffer itself to the right pH.
