Opinions on outdoor soil ph probes

What’s everyone using for ph probes nowadays? My last two died within a year of using them (they were somewhat cheap ~$20). I want to get a good reliable probe for my outdoor soil without breaking the bank. I used to use blue lab pens with hydro years ago but at over $100 it’s a little hard to justify for my small hobbyist garden.

whats up dsmer? i honestly don't really trust soil ph probes ... they always seem to give me inconsistent results ... but then again I've never really had a good one, just the cheap 20-30 dollar ones ... I rarely, if ever check soil the soil ph with living soil ... but if I do I make a slurry with the soil and some distilled water and use the regular ph pen to test that ... it seems I get better results that way

my living soil is only 2 years old so I just wanna give it a check to make sure there was fluctuations from last year. I haven’t checked it at all this season. Normally I do what you said, mix a batch of soil in water let it sit for a bit and check it but I don’t even have a pen anymore. It more for curiosity sake

I have had good results with the capsule ph kits; they are close enough to the extension/university soil reports, which have been unavailable to me this year.
