Soil
What is the best type of soil I can use for seedlings that I can find at Home Depot or Lowes?
Can I use this soil for the rest of their life's?

Lighting
I have 4 23wt. 6500k CFLS and 2 150wt. HPS lights [that are on the way home]
Which should I use for Veg. and which for Flw.?
[I was thinking the cfls and 1 HPS for veg. ,then all the lights for flw.]

I've used organic soil and compost mixed with perlite.I'm no expert on it,just try to get some without added nutes for right now.I have grown in miracle grow as well, but it can give you nute burn.

Perlite is some good stuff, that and some good soil and some worm castings and do a mixture of all that, maybe some sand in there to help with draining.

I dont know how much money you got work with, but you can get a 150 watt HPS with lamp, hood, bulb, and ballast for about 90 bucks shipped from HTG supply. Cant beat it. or go up to a 250 or 400 watt, then u will be gettin some big ass buds for sure! The bigger you go the harder it is to control your heat and more expensive light bill $$$.

How you use your lighting will depend on how you wish to grow. Do you have a veg area and a flower area, or just one space? Do you want a continual system, or do a complete grow from start to finish, then move on to the next one?

As for your question about keeping the plants short, there are several ways to do this. One method is to not veg them for long before flowering. You could also use one, or a combination of, the training methods available to you (ScroG, LST, topping/fimming, supercropping etc.) The method you use should be decided based on your grow space dimensions, and how many plants you want to grow.

lmfao fair play mate my bad..
but what u said about the hps and ur cfls for growing is a very good idea mixing the light spectrums is good because a plant needs both colours wen growing either in veg or flower so does my mate del666 whos grow on here he has very good results with the 2 spectrum colours

This is my exact setup. If you have the money to spend on the real deal lights, then get at least a 250.I bought a 150, and it's good for one or two small plants, IMO.I don't know why it costs pretty much the same to get a 400 watt as a 150, so if you can, get one.Anyway, this is what I have, and it doesn't take any fancy wiring, just screw in your bulb ,assemble the reflector, plug it in, that's it.http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=47981 I have both the switchable MH bulb and the HPS.
