I'm going to grow in a second floor room. Was just sitting here going over my check list and forgot about the eye on the sky come harvest time.
Will they be able to see my grow heat throw the attic and the other layers.

In my area we have a helicopter that flys around with a heat camera looking for outdoor grows and I figure a nice grow putting off heat would be visible to thermal cameras. That's how they spot plants in the wild because the pot plant stays hotter then the surround area. Hence why pine tree heavy areas are used as grows since they give off the same heat signature in the night.
And I've seen this heli up close, worked somewhere the boss had plants in the corn fields and it popped up from behind a hog barn.
Plus I see it launch from our local airport alot since I work across from it.
So wonder if they could see the grows inside homes on 2nd floors.

Don't worry. Grow.. Be discreet and use a carbon filter to help scrub the smell.
Its equivalent to cutting a tag of a mattress.

They will spot your heat signature from a mile away my friend I have been around the latest infrared cameras the other night it picked up heat signature from a camp fire ring through the trees and brush the pilot guided two officers into the spot it had not had a fire in it since that morning when it was properly put out the heat it detected was from the still warm soil a fella was running from the cops after stealing one of their cars...they sell heat blocking foil that will shrink your heat signature be clever with you fan vents and you should be good

Have you heard of anyone busted this way? I haven’t. At all. Further there’s probably not many judges dumb enough to authorize a search warrant based on an infrared image. Don’t worry about it.

The infamous helicopter searching for heat signatures to bust cannabis growers. I've heard of it for decades but have never heard of anyone being busted. How do they know you're not cooking a pot of soup on the stove?

I think this whole helicopter stuff is a bunch of nonsense.

What gets people busted is too many people talking. Don’t let anyone see your grow and no problems. Nobody to give a sworn statement for obtaining a warrant.

No.

They will see if you vent heat from a window, even that doesn't stand out really. They also can't see hot air, it doesn't register

They can't see through walls, roofs. Only read surface temperature.

At the end of the day the air in a grow room is pretty much normal household air temperature.

If you had a 1000w hps in the attic then that's different.

I vent through chimneys because it looks like a normal heat sig

I use a wye and go out the dryer vent.

Good idea!

You're more likely to get popped via excessive utility usage or spikes in utility usage (not just electric. If a house all of a sudden starts using way more water, for example, that's a possible sign of a grow)

I wouldn't worry about "god's eye", stop watching so much Fast & Furious . Mind your utilities usage.

I plan on venting it right back into my attic and only running 2- 150w LEDs parking lot light that barely get warm to the feel.
I am just a paranoid person and figure I would poke around and see if it be a issue.
But also thinking of moving to the basement next time, first grow so really just trying it out, and will vent right out of my dryer. And that was a great idea whoever had that.
