'We have broken speed of light'

A pair of German physicists claim to have broken the speed of light - an achievement that would undermine our entire understanding of space and time.
According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it would require an infinite amount of energy to propel an object at more than 186,000 miles per second.
However, Dr Gunter Nimtz and Dr Alfons Stahlhofen, of the University of Koblenz, say they may have breached a key tenet of that theory.

The pair say they have conducted an experiment in which microwave photons - energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart.
Being able to travel faster than the speed of light would lead to a wide variety of bizarre consequences.
For instance, an astronaut moving faster than it would theoretically arrive at a destination before leaving.
The scientists were investigating a phenomenon called quantum tunnelling, which allows sub-atomic particles to break apparently unbreakable laws.
Dr Nimtz told New Scientist magazine: "For the time being, this is the only violation of special relativity that I know of."

yes, we will need to go faster then just the speed of light, but if we can break the speed of light, then why cant we go 2, 3, 4 to 100x faster than it? I always thought einsteins theory was a load, but omg omg omg its here panda!!

Im gonna start a company which sends people to other planets with the speed of light, i will call it Rollitup in a Spliffy Inc.

was thinking about travelling that fast the other day. we could discover other planets in other solar systems and i think we could find aliens like us. theres gotta be other planets out there like earth.... maybe they might have adapted to a diffrent kind of planet. breath nitrogen instead of oxygen or some mad stuff. the possibility's are endless.

In star trek they use something known as a Warp Engine, which basically goes on the theory that by using immense gravity fields, you can bend space in front of you. Then you would simply travel forward, and since the gravity field is pulling stuff towards you. In essence you travel a longer distance while only going a very small amount.

Hope that made sence, im super high atm :)

PS: About weather or not you think there are aliens out there, heres some mental floss... When you look up into the stars, you are essencally looking into the past, as it has taken somewhere of 13.7 billion years to create the universe, and when you look at the sun, you are also looking at what the sun Used to be 8 minutes ago.
And the next closet star is 4.3 light years away (traveling at the speed of light for 4 and 4 months to reach it (BTW the speed of light is 299,792,458 meters per second)). So imagine how much the universe has expanded (and it is expanding at the speed of light) and that light is going that fast a second... ok my brain hurts, but I hope I made some sense there ><

Can we basically sum this up into a few words. If you re read they arent saying there moving they said they took and departicalized sometihng and re particalized it somewhere else. ok This is basically

The Stargate in all the stargate related films or shows ( You departicalize ur body , go infinite speeds in a vortex and re particalize)

A teleporter (same thing )

the thing the guy was trying to invent in the movie The Fly ( lol a teleporter)

They may have inviented sometihng faster than speed of lgiht but its a teleporter really. and i am super high so ill post my ide aon teleporters in a new thread

You havent seen it yet. The end of the unvierse is boring, its just those eye viewing things on san fransico that u put a quarter to view long distance and on there otherside its white to the naked eye, but when viewing long distances through the machines you can see a parallel universe. its quite fun cause ur looking back at urself only differently.
