I purchased and ordorsok a few months ago. I have some plants that are ready to flower and they are smelling strong. I know you can recondition these things a few times before they are toast. I think you throw them in the dryer? anybody know? Has anyone ever used one of these things before with success? If i cant fix the problem soon i will have to try a can filter...

Yes you can recondition them by putting them in the dryer for short intervals. 10 - 15 minutes, you don't want to cook it on high heat for an hour. You are just drying it out, humidity kills them. I saw a graph somewhere and the curve is crazy once rh starts going up/efficiency goes down.

I owned two and they just got me through veg and to the start of flower. Then I had to drive 1.5 hours just to spend 7 minutes and $400 getting carbon filters then drove 1.5 hours back.

No smell at all, growing Rez Diesel so...

I really hate the odor soks, the only thing good was the tape that came with them. It's cool Black on Black with Chinese characters.

Good luck on getting a little more life out of them. Just take them down and I always took the mesh insert out and then tossed them in the dryer. You're just buying a little time though, start planning on the replacement.

I tried to save a few bucks and ended up getting carbon filters anyway.

not expensive? then you arent looking at activated carbon or activated charcoal because the smallest intake carbon filter i found online was $150 with a passive air intake fan all rated for 95 cfm.
Can-Fan / Can-Filter combos from 4 hydroponics.com by Growco Indoor Garden Supply
i think most people use the active carbon intake as exhaust filters as well but true exhaust activated carbons that i find say they are different because they keep the air in using mazing of air passageways to fully clean the air.
Airtech Carbon Series air filtering systems from 4 hydroponics.com by Growco Indoor Garden Supply
and these exhaust filters go for $200 for a 200cfm without including a forced air fan.

so i say again, not expensive? gimme some of that money growin from your ears then

''Make your own for $20?

I bought two 16 pounders and another 16 pounds of charcoal. JUST the charcoal refill was $50.

With the other materials a $20 DIY would have between 2 and 5 pounds of charcoal. That would only accommodate a small grow.

The 16 pounders are rated for an 8 x 8 at 200cfm.

The odor Soks are a great idea, but the technology needs to advance a little further or be made to a higher quality.

They seem to be made from carbon fabric, similar to the odor reducing filters available for your homes CHA. For the money I spent on these two I hope it is more substantial that that but doubt it.

Buying even a $300 carbon filter is cheap. I'm sure court costs and fines would be more than that.

I would only recommend a Odor Sok to a Micro Grower or to a grower that had NO Humidity Problems and just wanted to knock the edge off the smell.

If you think I'm crazy I'll make someone a GREAT deal on two slightly used Soks. They are the Kia of odor control.

Think of it like this... If it costs $400 or $500 for a good filter and fan combo then that is how much it costs to stay out of jail...
Is it worth it now?

Really u don't need to spend all that though.
U do need to spend $100-200 on a good fan, but I just bought 55lbs of activated carbon for $85 shipped. This will make me 3 bomb ass filters.

Most DIY filters out there will not work for shit because they use 8oz of carbon. You need to use 10-30lbs pending on room and fan size.

Ok, its official, i put the filter in the dryer for 15 minutes. I put it back on and the smell was gone. One day later, smell is coming back. Looks like im going to have to get a carbon filter... Luckily, the local hydro store has a 300 cfm max filter for 150.

Hey Skinflute, i saw those filters online before but i was skeptical. have you tried one? Do they work well? they are a bit smaller than most other carbon filters.

Mine is scheduled for delivery on the 25th. It will be attached to a 6" eco plus inline fan 440cfm. Fingers are crossed hoping it will remove all smell.
will be sure to follow up with a review.

They carry 12,18,or 24" filters.

I'm tempted to buy one, I think i probably will. i need to act quick. I hope it works though, would hate to end up with another dud. I'm limited for space too... and these filters are more compact. The can filters for the same cfm are 18" in diameter, not 8". It will probably just be harder to pull air through it. I have way overkill on my fan, 400 cfm for a 3 x 3 x 5.5 foot room (usuallay have it on about 1/3 speed), so if thats an issue i dont think i will have a problem...

they arent 18 inch in diameter. these are the same size.
13 x 13 x8 = 1352 cfm fan needed without a filter, so how can a filter rated for 300 cfm work. there math dosn`t add up.
curious to see if it works

DON"T WASH THEM!!!
I went to their site because mine started not to work so well after about a year of using it. After I washed it, the "carbon" inside bunched up and I had to cut part of the filter so I could reach my hand down inside and move it all back into place. I just duct taped it back up, but still, it got all fucked up and took like an hr to fix.

I think the problem that most people have with the Odor Soks is that they need to buy them "oversized". I only run 465cfm through my 800cfm Odor Sok. I only have problems with smell for about the last week of flower, and its not bad at all. These things don't have the same 2" carbon bed that a regular filter has. I think you need more contact time with these filters than other ones. So buying an oversized one is the way to go. The difference in price between them is near nothing, so just get a much bigger one than you need and you shouldn't have any problems.

Oh and I forgot to mention, Bonz they may be using that guideline for scrubbing the air in the room, not exhausting through the filter. You can get away with less CFM if you are scrubbing the air inside and exhausting with a different fan.
