Dissenting opinion. I am under the impression that the M16 is the full/select-fire version of the AR15. Most parts are interchangeable. The full and select-fire provision changes function but very little in re form. cn

Nobody uses full auto except for supression fire... You cannot accurately aim most firearms while in full auto.

Agreed, but I was addressing the emphatic "nothing like [each other]". In terms of form and parts list, the guns are almost the same. The diff is in the trigger and selector mechanisms, but uppers, barrels etc are interchangeable iirc.
But one is an assault rifle, while the other is a mere "assault weapon". I will admit, the antis scored a palpable hit with that bit of wordsmithing. cn
