Obama, the senate, the debt ceiling, and what we need to do.

Previously passed Spending bills. Any debt you think we should not pay was at one point part of a bill that was passed into law.

HCR for example. It passed. It is law. It should not be subject to another vote to fund it. That is what sore losers want to do.

Well yes at one point congress did pass bills with these gremlins in it. There is also a reason why congress has the ability to repeal these bills, just because a bill passes through the legislative branch doesn't mean it should be written in stone. Alcohol prohibition was a bill passed by congress at one point but that didn't mean it was right, same goes for our monstrous budget. I want to also say that we spend an exuberant amount of money funding all these wars and military bases around the world, wars that were started WITHOUT a declaration of war by congress and yet we still waste taxpayer money occupying these countries? Should we just keep it up because congress passed these bills into law as well?

It's like the American congress signed america up for a contract we cannot meet, and I believe it's not right as well as unethical. You, me, and everyone else in this country are statistically $45,000 in debt to other countries and special interests thanks to these bills. Do you believe we should continue to rack up this debt for ourselves? Because in the end no matter which politician you support they aren't paying the bliss WE ARE! And I'm pissed off about it, the current generation of adults fucked me and everyone in my upcoming generation and yet they call us naive when I will be footing the bill in the years to come.

Sorry had to vent, but can you understand?

IMO you could solve half the problems by stopping television watching. TV has made the minds of people like easily molded balls of clay, TV reprograms people to think a certain way, and it works very well to that purpose.

This is a huge point I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe one day America will understand, but it's nearly impossible when corporate cable media is everywhere, walk into Mcdonalds and it's there, walk into the steets of NY and it's there, shoot you could be watching a channel that supports a major media outlet and get blasted with their agenda even if your not asking too. Besides what's the point in cable anyways? The only shows worth watching are on Discovery, History Channel, Spike, NatGeo, and of course CSpan which gives great insight for the average american, other than that everything else is a conglomerate pile of shit in my honest opinion.

Ever see the movie "Citizen Kane"? Media tells YOU what to think.

I hear the president will raise the debt celing by executive order or by the 16th? amendment- if they don't go ahead and raise it and I hear our credit rating will be downgraded regardless.

I just heard that this pledge that nearly half of our government has signed on to (218 in the House, 41 Senators) is not just pertaining to the current crisis. My gf told me that she heard or read that it is actually a pledge not to vote for any taxes, ever. How do you govern a country that way? If this is true, these people are not worthy of their office.

They want to dismantle government. I say fine, start with them.

Well, that was easy enough. I just went to the ATR site and read the pledge for myself. It does appear to be forever, or until such time as the signer withdraws I guess. It pledges not to raise income taxes and not to allow any (net) loss of deductions or credits. Well-intentioned perhaps, but you just can't hamstring the government like that. There are too many unforseen circumstances that might occur. Would they break the pledge in the face of disaster? Doubtful.. we are looking at possible disaster right now but they are apparently in mass denial over it.

For any elected to the House or Senate to do this, give prior notice that they intend to curtail the government's ability to raise funds for the common defense, is a problem for national security. I really think it is treasonous what they are doing.

Knowing our fucking system it won't hold up in 3 months! Shoot we won't even declare war anymore, but that's in the constitution, this "institution" won't acknowledge that. Besides the "agreement" I'm hearing about gives the federal government an immediate 1 trillion with a "promise" of 1.1 trill in cuts over the NEXT 10 YEARS! So basically it's utterly pointless, this will not work. That's nets 100 billion in cuts which will be ate up in interest and the cost of inflation. Not to mention obama's budget calls for ANOTHER 13 trillion in debt over the next 10 years. gahhh

Agree 100% hazy. You keep adding to the debt without more revenue and it overtakes everything eventually. Cripes, it's not rocket science.

The malicious media would have you believe otherwise, the way I figure it if your on this forum and have enough brain cells to successfully grow marijuana they should be able to process such a concept without excuses.
