The United States declared yet another unconstitutional war in the Middle East today when it launched a bevy of deadly Tomahawk cruise missiles at the sovereign state of Libya

I disagree the Patriot act authorizes these things thus side stepping the Third Amendment and Congress.

Don't blame me that we have a police State.. I didn't vote for the Patriot Act.

the united states has not made a declaration of war for decades now.

thus, the title of your thread is invalid.

It is true Congress wants to know how this turns out.

The questions arise since how this works out isn't clear.. Do we fund the revolution or do we accept that Gaddafi may win and deal with that?

He is really whacked out mentally that is clear..
So perhaps anyone who will pick up a gun will for Gaddafi or maybe not.
One thing is clear; we can bomb his compound in pin point precision.
One missile was put into the compound I believe to let them know they are not safe.

There is no Declaration of War. The president has 30 days to execute almost anything he wants. This is how miniscule problems are erased around the globe on a weekly, if not daily, basis.

Airstrikes are not overly rare.

He may put down this uprising

He wont put anything down, he might try, but if he does he will just have his army/airforce etc simply wiped from existence.
Long story short hes a twat thats thrown his toys out the pram and now hes getting a smacked bum for it.
He`s been told he cant stay in power and the UN WILL enforce that, and with the military superiority we now have in the area it wont be too long before he gets strung up jus like saddam

Well hell glad to see every body is on odumbass for libya. When the hell are people going to wake up and understand the bastard has declared war on America 2years ago.

Nah that can't happen. Heck, Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize! What are you, high?

did you watch the speech? his was unlike a lot of other speeches by nobel peace prize recipients because he made statements that acknowledged situations like this one that may or may not require action.

i can't yet say where i stand on this issue, but i am saying that obama did not give the same speech as other nobel peace prize recipients.

i have kept over $2k more of my money over the last two years thanks to obama and the democrats' tax breaks for the middle class.

i hope he declares war on america more often. then i can buy better lights and soil :)

We are required by the constitution to hold up our sides of treaties and honor them as the "supreme law of the land". It would be illegal NOT to do something at this point.
. Amendment VI, cl.2 reads: This Constitution . . . and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby.

Charter of the United Nations

Ratified by the U.S. Senate on July 28, 1945.

The preamble states that the peoples of the United Nations have determined to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small and to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, and to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom.

Article 55 of the UN Charter states: The UN shall promote higher standards of living, full employment, and conditions of economic and social progress and development . . . as well as universal respect for, and observance of, human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion.

As part of the "supreme law of the land" of the United States (U.S. Const., Art. VI cl.2.) this charter enumerates the rights of individuals and duties of every nation that is a signatory to the treaty. All levels of U.S. Government are expected to enforce rights guaranteed by the Charter. The US supreme court, two circuit courts, two district courts and one tax court have cited the UN Charter as U.S. law.

Speaking of the UN, the charter addresses war and peacekeeping in section VII. In each case, it talks about the agression of one nation against another. It says nothing about internal strife and conflict.

The UN does not give us our marching orders, the Constitution does. Obama used to know that.

Obama Dec. 20, 2007 interview with the Boston Globe when reporter Charlie Savage asked him under what circumstances the president would have the constitutional authority to bomb Iran without first seeking authorization from Congress.

“The President does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation,” Obama responded.

“As Commander-in-Chief, the President does have a duty to protect and defend the United States,” Obama continued. “In instances of self-defense, the President would be within his constitutional authority to act before advising Congress or seeking its consent. History has shown us time and again, however, that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the Legislative branch.”

Most NCS action is carried out by through the JCOS with Presidential authorization or through the NSC with Presidential authorization.

Anything can be reasoned as an imminent or actual threat if it puts US interests in danger. This goes for pirates, drug dealers in South and Central America, Asia, and Africa, rogue military folks around the world, etc...

For the stoned kids who chain themselves to trees, there's another world that doesn't play by the "Kumbaya rules". Fortunately, most of these actions are quiet and you don't have to deal with them. The families that remedy these situations don't like it either.

it costs alot of money to become president, they usually all have the same backers too.

pretty sure obama has the same "sponsors" as bush had.

different speech, different man, same agenda.
