Oak Tree?

I have a oak tree in my backyard and I heard that growing plants under oak tree is bad too many bugs and the tree was trimmed except the top and some sides it's too high can get to it. Just wanting to know if growing under oak tree is bad.

Need a few more details such as: What are you growing in, native soil or containers? How old is the tree and how high is the canopy above? As a general rule, it's a bad idea to grow under any tree, oak or otherwise since trees by nature produce a canopy that robs sunlight thereby reducing competition from other surrounding flora. The perceived additional security you get by growing in the understory can come at a high price - Diminished yields or even outright failure.

I'm growing in my 3x3x1 wood box that I made and I'm going to use either kelloggs patio plus soil or ocean forest. The oak tree is over 20yrs old and it's very tall but most of the side branches are trimmed down. Last year I had thrip bugs,mites and some other bugs and they suck the shit out of my plant and my colas were really big but thrips bugs suck out all the thc and I ended with less than I wanted to get and my friend said it's bad to grow under oak tree because of the sap and what ever it is that attracts the bugs. I'm not worried about sunlight the plants get enough sunlight and it doesn't flower until end of august.

Never heard of oak trees hurting plants aside from blocking out the sun. Pine trees however, bring the soils ph way down. That's why you add lime to your mix.

if u plant it in the soil under an oak then your plant doesn't have a chance. oaks are stingy with their area and take all the nutes and water. best chance is in a container unless your grow box has a liner in the bottom to keep the oak roots away from your good soil. as mentioned, shade will keep your plant from reaching its full potential. I'm not worried about shade my plants will get all the sunlight it needs. I heard it's bad to grow with a oak tree because of the bugs it produce if that's not the case than I'm not worried and about the roots pulling nutes and water I can't do anything about it.
