they get harder to transplant the bigger they get,
I am not saying you cant transplant them.
i like to get them to around ten/twelve inches before i transplant outside ,because i feel they can handle the elements at that age...

I have transplanted them that large a few times already this year... its no big deal... 4 footers... I want huge monsters next year!

time for an update on my outdoor monster attempt.
starting to see some real growth now spring is here it is looking good and is putting on some real healthy growth.
i will mulch again shortly amd maybe give it some flexi.N (nitrogen liquid) to boost leaf growth.

Man, I am telling you, that plant will be like 10 feet tall! I am sure you will take care of it right too, . I see many pounds coming from that baby. But what is up with that metal circle around it? Is it in a metal can or something... is there a hole in the bottom of it? the cage is mainly to keep the dog off it,but it will also help support the plant during flowering when it rains.
the branches get very heavy and sometimes they snap...
it is growing in an old small rainwater tank that i cut it has no bottom...
think you are on to something there,it should workout fine for you good luck...

I was asking about the rainwater tank with no bottom. Good that it has no bottom, that means the growth could be endless for you... I hope that plant likes lots of N

unfortunately it is solid clay under me so i decided to add some depth in the area(although i grew the one in my avatar in the same spot last season)
me being a lazy geriatric old fart could not be bothered digging into the clay.
so yes hoping a bit more space for the roots will help me with this grow.
oh the girls love the flexi.N

update time ..
i have a feeling she is starting to feed on the fish ,she has gone a real dark green and is really starting to put on some growth.
getting some muchl needed rain today so hope we get an inch or two..
i put up a picture of the girl i have in a big pot she is also growing quite well..
