Nutrient Expiration

So, I have a general question which I found the answer to on Google, kind of. Everything I have read says if you keep your nutes in a decent area and properly stored, they should be fine.

I have the 3 part lineup from Advanced Nutrients (pH Perfect Grow, Micro, Bloom) and it has been stored for some years. The caps were on tight and I have looked inside to see if they look any different or smell weird and they seem to look perfectly fine, but, my cousin who I offered to give them to told me they go bad. Is it true they go bad? I'd rather use them insead of spending the extra money to buy them again.

Is there a way I can test them on a different kind of plant (I have a mini rose bush in a pot in the house, still very small and needs feeding, and I'd rather not risk it with more expensive plants)?

Nonorganic nutrients should have indefinite shelf life. A use-by date looks responsible while selling more product. Organic nutes legitimately have a shortish shelf life.

A test on a fast grower like a tomato or pepper will work, but you’ll need to run it for at least two months and ideally longer.

as long you conserved them in a dark place, between 10 to 25 degree C they must be good

is there a deposit/ chunks inside ? precipitate sometimesform in the micro bottle

My understanding, they last forever. Like sodium chloride. The chemical make up does not change unless acted upon by another chemical.

However, the dye they use will bleach out. I've poured some GH in a couple of clear glass bottles. Using it for houseplants. After a couple of years. The micro turns a lighter shade. The grow and bloom go clear. They still work after that but it's difficult to tell them apart. Besides the micro. Which retains a little color.

There’s a garden centre called all seasons and they make their own line of synthetic fertilizer Wildthang.
A friend of mine had separation in on of the bottles.
They just added a little r/o water heated the solution up and re mixed it up for them.

synthetic lasts forever

I was unable to resurrect a bottle of Dyna Gro bloom with water, heat, acid, grinding, all of the above. I’m a retired lab chemist, so that bothered me.

My 10-year-old quarts of GH three-part are like new.

I’ll have to take your word for it.
The owners father is a chemist and makes the product in house.
He took the bottle in the back room and came out like it was nothing,there may have been more to his story than just heat and a re mix but that all he told me

I don’t doubt it. Formulating for completeness plus stability is an art, I am finding.

I consider your experience to reflect well on his formula.

Well I know that product is their baby, they’ve been making it and selling it for well over 15 years so I’m sure they have tinkered with it over the years

I spoke with someone at growth technology about the same thing, the chap said, if you swish the bottle gently and hear crystals rattling/scuffing the bottom of the bottle it would indicate chemical have bonded its no use, if you don't hear anything it'll be fine.

i'm going to check that out in a clear container before i try to use them. they aren't in clear containers so that should be good for a dark place right? also my house stays around 65 year round

thank you very much for the info, i actually e-mailed advanced nutrients as well for an answer. .you'd think they'd put a date on if there was an expiration for them..

I had the same question in December about the 2 year old PH Perfect 3 part. Decided to just use it. I'm on week 9 flower now and it's worked perfectly as far as I can tell. Just keep em in a cool dark place if possible. I think it worked....anyway....just my 3rd grow...

that is very helpful, thank you. and those are some beautiful girls you got there

also i should add eventually my tomatoes are going into the ground so i will probably not use much fert before then and if i do it will be very little

I was going to mention tomatoes as well. Been using the same batch of fertilizer outdoors for the last 7 years. I think if there's an expiry on non organics, it comes down to marketing and resell value by the company involved to be honest.

funny you talk about growth tech
i love their ionic hydro bloom softwater for its simplicity but i cant source fresh batch anymore
everytime i order some soft water ionic it has some precipitate at the bottom, you can hear it by shaking the bottle

its a shame they dont have an online shop
only shady distributors
