dude the e-conolight is perfectly safe. Once you take it out of the set-up it comes in, you can buy a ballast box for 20$ http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=HLBARBXGSLD
and once it is in there it is no different then any metallic ballast. they are basic components and as long as you take good care of them, and put them in a good place they will be fine. you should check out a couple forums about them. some poeple out there have done nice things with them
