This is not a laid back forum. You can ignore him literally by clicking ignore. When someone posts in an open forum it can be for everyone to read and respond to, and his info sounds solid. Guess he's not your guy. In fact he is tame compared to what you will be in for on this site.

Whether his comment is sound or not is irrelevant to me. He gives half-answers as if they're the whole answers, and then presents it like it's gospel. I'm not a gardener by trade, but I really think I have enough background in the sciences to define/explain a process - correctly - and i don't need to go on attack to do it, unless provoked (and if I'm in the mood to respond). All I did was refer to a process the way the general public does, and he came in to show his expertise. I gave him a more detailed explanation of what I "KNOW" to be true, and pointed out his rudeness - that he obviously proud of - which I choose not to participate in or encourage. That's it. So he's not my guy. I think we'll both live through this.
Bottom line: if what he says works for you, use it. It doesn't matter who said it first or last, and it's no big deal that he turned around and basically repeated what I said. My only thing is, be civil about it. There's nothing wrong with having an opinion. There is something wrong when it's shoved down your throat.

I mean, it's just a discussion board, right?

Absolutely. Just be prepared for a lot of tense discussions and arguments on this board. Sometimes even the really good teachers with good emotional control get tired after battling both the intelligent people and sometimes the not so intelligent people with good intentions and thirdly the people that often pretend to be nice only to get their rocks off by screwing people up.

Duly noted, and thanks for the reminder. And your right about the emotional control comment, too. After pulling a double shift in the ER (We're still dealing with July 4th incidents) I came back to read and relax, because I like and learn from the topics here. Definitely could have handled that conversation better, so that's on me, not him.

It's just that there are a lot of reasons why FFOF is worth its price, and it's not just the nutrient factor. If they removed the nutrients from that bag, it wouldn't be sold for 38.00 a 1.5c ft,, but it would still be a higher grade of 'dirt' than anything in the store, and definitely better than...Miracle-gro (I admit I've used it in emergencies, but as a rule, I try to avoid Monsanto backed products). That, plus you'd have to flush a bag soil - any bag of soil - for at least a good, solid week to effectively remove what makes 'hot' or 'super soil,'and even then, you still have a richer product than most. so there's no real danger to your plant or your pocketbook in doing that. There just isn't.
In the 90's, we were always in the wash/amend mode with soil in Northern California, because that clay was super rich in nutrients, but without sand and moisture all you had was a big, red brick in your backyard.
Either way, next time I'm having that kind of night, I'm going to go and read the official Barney website, where going postal should be encouraged.

I've been gardening, in general, for close to to 25 years. I've been contributing to the forums since '09. I like helping people. You're right, it gets old talking about the same old shit over and over. Yeah, I tend to be curt with my answers, but try to give points of reference that someone can build on with a little research.

You're also right that I'm much tamer than most around here, Roggers whole " you're a meanie so i refuse to listen to you" attitude woulda got him a mouth full of dicks from a few people.

I learned from old timers that would slap you in the back of the head and tell you to "fucking pay attention, cause I ain't showing you again", so that kinda explains my teaching style. If you couldn't take some hard ass ball busting you'd be eaten alive.

Now, even THAT makes more sense, and more people are reverting back to the more natural, common sense means of soil enrichment and planting over buying already amended - or over over amended soil. Thank you!

Amendments are just that, light toppings that can be put on top of already good living soil to redistribute.

The only soil I've ever had to seriously 'amend' was clay soil, other than that, I hate spending money on treated soil, only to turn around and spend more money on getting it to where I want it to be, for my grow.
