Not your same old lighting question

I'm currently running a cfl grow, but the power of hps can't be denied and I was wondering what would be the best choice in hps for a standard size closet? I keep my door cracked when the lights are on to dissipate the heat with the help of a squirrel cage fan. I'm running 13 42watt cfls in this space and the temps never get above 80 degrees. I'm wondering if 400hps would be too much in this space? If so, is a 250hps better than my current setup for flower? Thanks

Stick to similar wattage if you're worried about heat. 600 would be close and that's a lot of light for a closet too. Maybe just get a cooltube if temps get too much higher.

I run a 400W HPS in a 4.5 square foot cabinet. I keep two PC fans on the whole time the light is on and it stays a little over 80.

5-7000 lumens psf= 400 watt 3x3-4x4 room 600 watt 4x4-5x5how are we suppposed to help when you give us no closet dementions

My mistake , the dimensions are as follows.
8ft H x 5ft W x 2ft D

yer gonna prolly wanna get a combination of lights for that room like 3 150's so you can cover the whole area, in a 2x2 area the light i looked at, at htg put 16,000 lummens thats 4000 psf so figure your room is 2x5 so it would prolly be a lil higher since each light would only need to cover like 2x1.66 workout to have 3 lights covering it in my opinion

may be able to find em cheaper sumwhere i dont know i never got one that small b4 but it seems ther a lot of options for the smaller wattages

then get your ventilation streight... sealed, room exhausst and intake, circulation fan.... if ya wanna you can get some steel square stock conect all the lights to it and make the diy cool tubes with the bake round pyrex all conected as 1 unit you can hang with cables and pulleys to rais and lower the whole unit

Thanks Tussel, I'm including a pic of my closet, I'm not sure that I'd need more than one light. I'm not doubting your advice, it's just that the closet will only hold two people of my stature shoulder to shoulder. It's possible that I gave you incorrect measurements. The closet is 8 ft. high by 5 ft. wide by 2 ft deep. You can see in the pic that the closet barely holds the two plants. Thanks again for help, + rep to you

if you get ahold of 10-12x12 pots and pack em in ther 2 deep and 5 long with 3 150,s veg no higher than 1 foot and trim up the bottom third b4 flower and keep em clean and pool some good weight off that closet... or get 1 150 watter and do 4 in 12x12 pots and expand as you go maybe do a grow or 2 then get another 150 and step up to 8 plants do that then add another and step up to 10 plants i know what you mean 2x5, this is how i would use the space and you can fit more in with those 2 plantseasy at least 3 or 4, use the whole space. you will never find one light tht will cover a rectangular room. clean up the room nothing on the floor thats where the plants go, all wireing gets attached to walls and ceiling nice and neat, get a difrnt fan maybe even a few small greenhouse clip fans,use space wisely and grow grow grow

im actually kinda jealouse now i wanna set it up well mine is 3.5 x 5 but i dnt use it all i just run 1 400 right now
and might get another but i dnt know i dn't really need it i pull enough off that but if i did i could do 15 just gotta be sure your exhaust and circulation is good with that thick of a canopy and the heat but if you take the time to set it up right and get used to it you would be set. just dnt let em get too big and if you have a room for a mother then you can clone 2 every week and a half and harvest 2 plants every week and a half have all the lights seperate so you can rais the ones over the older plants by the time you take the last 2 clones the first 2 will be ready to come out might get ya a few oz. every week and a half, not too bad..........

i keep my mothers in a 2x2x3 room under cfl under my work bench in the garage and i just root the clones in the same room and let em veg a short time in ther but you can flower em soon as they root and still get a good yeild veging only a short time
