Not sure if DWC rez is blocking all light... Seems they aren't made as good as they use to be.

i would say its overkill for light blocking, unnessesary as the tote is thick enough as it is, however, the mylar will shine light up through the under sides of the plants leaves for a while at least, eventualy the plants canopy will stop this from happening, but it will give your plants a great start, so in my opinion, keep the mylar on there. good luck with it, happy growing

I crack the lid of the rez an inch and there isn't light getting in, but its not completely dark either.

Yeah I think I just won't put the mylar on if I'm not gonna get light issues or algae... I'm not worried about giving my plants better mylar reflection.
 
in that case, its imperative you cover the whole tot in something to stop all light, thats all you can do with totes, that or cut out a sheet of marine ply and make sure thart you have no light shineing on the tote

Its not light, its really just not as dark as it could be when I crack the lid a bit and look in.. Its like the light in a living room with all the lights out but a lamp in the corner with a small 10W bulb dark, thats how dark it is. NOT completely blacked out. Its like these totes got cheaper., but the mylar really blacks it out.... So put mylar on just to be safe??

yes deff use it, even if theres the slightest posability of light leek, it will give you so many problems in your rez its crazy, so yes

Do you know any like 10-14 gallon rez's that are long and short like the one I sent you I got at target that won't get light leaks without mylar?
 
sorry friend, i live in the uk, sdo any over here wont help you, but most ive seen over here are clear, we dont have rybermaids i don think, but i grow in organic dirt, so iver not looked for them, good luck, im sure you will get an answer later when theres more smokers online
 
You could probably just put an entire sheet over all the containers, right over top the lids. Make cutouts where the net pots are.

It would use far less material than wrapping all the containers and plumbing. Also, it keeps leaves and plant matter from falling down to the floor.

Reflectix bubble wrap insulation is more rigid, and you can use metal tape to seam it together, and even tailor it to fit.

That, or a sheet of the shiny mylar backed foam panels they sell at home improvement stores. 1/2" thick ones are like 12 bucks or so, for a 4x8 panel.
 
With regular ultra reflective mylar film, you could possibly be creating focal points of light, like a parabolic dish, and reflecting hot spots upwards into the plants from below.

Or something along those lines.. Don't take my word for it, but as far as I know, most mylar films made for growrooms has some kind of texture or pattern to it, to scatter the light.
 
I always hold questionable containers and lids up to the lights before I buy them now days, right in the store. A few different people or employees have seen me put a tote completely over my head, and I can only not even really care what they must be thinking. :rolleyes:

It sucks when brands you trusted start cheaping out, and changing things, like altering plastic colors.
