Not enough heat in my Bloom Room Since replacing HPS with LED. Had to switch back.

Picked up 2 kinsgrbite 240W panels, and a HLG550 recently. Thought this would be a game changer for me. as far as quality, and electrical efficiency, grams per watt, etc.
First Bloom Run complete failure so far. Was using the 2x kingsbrite mixed with a 630W CMH in my bloom room. Temps at 68-72F. Lights on Starts at 68, and few hours later is at 70-72 remainder of day. I knew it was on the lower end, and not ideal. I read that you get more dense flowers with lower temps, as well as more terpene preservation. So I though great, I can handle maybe a little slower growth, or less yields, the quality should be excellent still. I also had very very good VEG growth with them under the HLG 550, with the same temps, and though ok, flowering, they recommend lower temps than VEG, so I should be just as good if not better off, with the same temps. And exhaust fan is turned down as much as possible while keeping humidity in check.

WELL... Fast forward to DAY 30 FLOWER. Flower development extremely slow and small and few, little trichome production, no resin production. Normally by 3 weeks you can get a pretty good idea of the type of smell they profile they will have, but they literally don't smell like anything when you squeeze, it gives nothing off.
The irony is that they are "super healthy" praying leaves, no def's, and great stretch as far as hight and branch production.

Measured the Leaf Surface temp, and it is the same as Room air. So basically 0 Infra Red Radiation warming them up.

It has nothing to do with strain, as I have 4 other strains in here, that are doing same thing. And I have actually grown this strain before so knew what to expect. It is Lime Gorilla Bubble.

Yesterday I put in a space heater running at 380W and it brought temps to 76-77. But it really sucks heating all that air, and then exhausting it to outside. What a waste. I rather use the hps that puts out more infra red spectrum etc which is great for blooming.

So today I replaced the CMH 630W with my HPS1000, and temps are at 76-78F PERFECT!

I researched LEDS reading and watching for at least 30+ hours, not one single person said yeah they are good, and make sense financially IF, and only IF you need to get your temps down with your current lights.

So the way I see it now, I will need to use my HPS/CMH in WINTER, HPS/LED in spring/fall, CMH/LED SUMMER.

And yeah, I live in Canada, so yes it gets cold. But I heat my house to 72F as hot as I can handle it, and the bloom room is at the same level, if not less. Corner room, facing the northside.

I always thought HPS was so wasteful, now I appreciate them. Spent 3 months vegging these LGBS, now the whole crop is wasted in a matter of weeks. first 2 weeks it was hard to tell anything was wrong, then I thought ok slow starter watch them kick in, over week 3 and 4, but no. So harsh

Please someone share some resources on low temp effects on flowering. I would love to flower without my HPS and using space heaters.

Have had this discussion many times with brother @hybridway2
Led is definitely a great tool in certain situations but definitely not the magic bullet for ALL growing situations.
Many like myself have found the IR radiation from HID lamps to play a huge input into the environmental control. Not to mention the effect it has on plant morphology. :peace:

Both were exactly going to be my point...environmental parameters /budget play a huge roll, personal preference, and you need to up temps under led. My last two runs under led produced dense, smelly nugs.
Great smoke and medication. It is def a learning curve, but not a complicated or mysterious one, when you change from hps to led.
That was my finding so far, and steadily ( I hope) improving my techniques.
I am just a homegrower for personal use.

Damn what a shame .
Lower temps for better buds applies to hps only & those lower temps are 76-78 in flower, getting colder then 70 during lights off near the end. Ith IR radiation compensates for this. Most white leds have none.
78-85•f with a 60-65% humidity has been doing the job fine.
You can't put a PandaWrap divider up to keep in the heat the leds produce?. They'll produce plenty of ambient.

I always say, the best light is the one that best fits your situation, and air temperature is a primary factor in my opinion. Some people run LED in the summer and HPS/CMH for winter. Low to mid 80's at roughly 50-65% humidity is best with LED. What is your humidity? It's important with LED, have a look.

Yeah, it can for sure be a learning curve alright!

Its weird.

When I have had problems with lower temps its always been in veg and in flower they pick up. Most of the year my temps are good. Never had a flower run that didn't beat my old HPS under LEDs.

Defo horses for courses and one set up doesn't suit all situations but with an ambient temp of 72 you would think your temps would of been higher.

Hate to ask the stupid question but your lights were all running full power?

How big is the bloom room and how far off canopy were the plants.
What kelvin LEDs.

Edit , Having reread your post, you say your house is 72 but lights on temp starts at 68, which makes me ask what air is feeding the grow room? Outside or household air?
Also makes me wonder if having such slow extraction is diminishing your co2 levels. Though I have to say it doesn't seem to do so for my room, but all incoming air is from my house.

Man, he getting all kinds of replies and hasn't even replied yet. I never understand someone who posts such a long, detailed thread and then ghosts it.
My guess is either:
1. first time running the strain and it's just a genetic issue. I know I had an absolute MONSTER Gorilla Skittlez in veg with HUGE branches. Overtook everything else in the tent every time, but come flower, the nugs and bud sites were absolute shit. Fuck all for yield, smelled like ACTUAL burnt rubber, not Terpy or dank, but LEGIT Disgusting, and was just a waste of time. That pheno is long gone now.
Just cause you've "grown that strain before" doesn't convince me these are cuts from that strain that you supposedly had success with before. New seeds of the same strain even if the same pack, could mean a COMPLETELY different outcome.
2. Using your LED like you were used to with HPS. Hung way too high, and the potentiometer was possibly not turned up all the way.

Good edit on asking for the color temp(CCT) of his LEDs.

I hope my delay in response will not hinder having a conversation around this topic. Even in quarantine, I have very busy days, and I only spend so much on social media, so it ends up being one session per day at most. Yesterday I spent that writing up the post, look forward to chatting with ya all until we reach a conclusion.

See my previous post for explanation, my apologies.

1. This is a clone from the plant that I have grown before. So 100% identical.

2. LED high is 18-24", I try to shoot for 18" and readjust as they stretch into that. I grow in a row and had the 240W boards on the outside, and CMH in the middle. CMH/HPS I always hang 24" away. Potentiometer is 100% on both. Don't think it is an issue with the lights/spectrum itself, because I am getting same results under the CMH in the middle. The CMH also has low heat output so is very similar in that aspect to LED.

you could maybe try slower extraction and put the filter on the floor to pull the warm air down through your room. not sure what your set up is.

either way, your room needs to be warmer for optimum growth.
I had the exhaust dialed down to 5-10% of the 1000CFM, its a 10" hyperfan, this was giving me 55-60RH, and I think that was pretty close to VPD when at 70F. Since then I have taken the Exhaust filter from the ceiling above the light, off to the side and a bit lower. I don't think it matters that much what hight it is at, because I have a hurricane moving air pretty well all over the room. Yesterday for example it was at 2 feet above ground, and my temp was 77. Moved it to a hight of 6 Feet and I still had same room temp.

Yes full 100% dialed up. I know this because I was playing around with it in the beginning using my kill a watt.

LEDS are 3K, room is 12F x 10F, the canopy area is 9F x 4F

The reason temps start at 68, is because it is a corner room on the northside, and with the door closed with lights off, there is less air circulating from throughout the house. But all intake air is from the coming from inside the house - household air. I actually have a co2 meter to make sure I wasn't having issues because I was pushing the extraction levels to as little as possible. But my co2 levels are 600-800ppm.
