Antsy about how the vote will go on legalization in November...Vote People

I just moved to Interlochen, and plan on growing mmj, as well as voting for legalization in Nov. As a former cop, you can only legally stop someone if you have probable cause (A valid, provable reason) to suspect that anyone involved in the stop, (not just the driver) is committing a crime. Technically, an officer can arrest you for DUI for cannabis because you’re not supposed to operate a vehicle while “under the influence” of any drugs or alcohol which includes mmj. Know your rights, and report d-bag cops if they show prejudice towards you, or are using bully tactics. Its the only way to make it stop.

I come from the other side of the eh em, law and I want to say reporting a dirty cop would be really dumb. Even dangerous.

The only thing to do with cops is stay very quiet and respectful and hope they go away.

Truth be told, there are decent cops, and then you have the d-bag cops who are going to be everywhere no matter what. Being respectful and cooperative is the preferred mutual method of handling 99% of police situations. Then you have people who just want to watch the world burn... In those situations... knowing your rights is key... and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS film your police encounters for YOUR safety. *mic drop*

Police can stop and search based on reasonable suspicion, in addition to probable cause. I think it bad law, but it's on the books.

A “Terry” stop applies to approaching people walking on the street, not vehicle stops. Probable cause is a must when stopping a vehicle, otherwise the driver can claim he was being profiled, and potentially sue the officer and/or the officer’s department. Just FYI, pasting a Wikipedia link to your to a response that doesn’t even make sense, or have proper grammar doesn’t help your cause.
