Normal?

So I'm new to gardening, and I was wondering if I am on the right track. It's been 10 days since the sprouts have come out of the soil. So far they are 5-6 inches tall and only have the "tear-drop" leaves and one set of preliminary leaves. Also, there are new sets of leaves popping out from the top center but they are only about 1 mm. Is this a normal growth rate? How long should it be before I have to worry about anything else... flowering, etc. ?

I'd love to help but I'm only on my second grow and I'm AeroGardening so I think the growth rate is different. I hope someone helps you though! Here's a bump from me to get you back on there!

Are you growing indoor or out?

If indoor, they are stretching for the light. Move it a little closer so they get the energy they are after. Same is true if you are outdoors, but the solution is finding a place where they receive more direct sunlight.

deffinetly stretching. mine are only 6 days old and ive got 6 leaves. the first ones are over an inch. and i use a low amount of light. so deffinetly move lights closer, and if you need to, get more lights.
what kind of setup are you using?

They're stretching a bit... pile dirt up to cotyledons (lower round leaves).. If you're using CFL get a Y splitter and put plant right in the middle and a bit lower then plant height.. and get a fan on it to strengthen stem...
More info would help..... Luck.

Ive got 3 CFLs giving me about 2300 lumens and a small rotating fan to give a little breeze. I know they stretched out in the beginning because I had the lights about a foot or so away. Two days ago I moved the lights down to 1-2 inches from the plants. It looks like they stopped growing up, and are starting to get the second set of leaves.
My major question is... with the lighting I have, how long will it be til I need to worry about switching to 12/12. Also, is there anything else I need to worry about between now and when I flower?

All the way through a grow you need fan/and to move the air..at the start to strengthen stem...later to change air... what they breath out is poison to them.. and the co2 we breath out they take in..

ok well i grow in my closet..there is a blanket over the area where there growing, would i be able to put the fan outside that blanket? or would it need it be inside?

Unless you have Whack O Plants SOG(Sea of Green) grow to flower at a small size is dumb.. you'll get joints off a small plant, when if you veg to at least 12" you get grams+... Makes no sense to spend money and time for a crappy yield, when a bit more time and :):):) ......
Under my CFL's last year I vegged for about 5 weeks... Luck.

I have a ? about your CFL.. you say 2300L... did you get the cool..
Cool = blue spectrum 6500 (veg).... Warm = red spect. 2700 (flower).....

Yeah, they are the cool. I have 2 out of sockets and 1 1.5-foot-long tube. However... I was thinking about picking up 2 more lights to speed things up.
How many lumens or Watts should I need for flowering when the time comes?
Thanks for the advise
