NOOBIE NEEDS HELP! My first grow need advice on germination/early life.

Hey I have just started to get into growing from some friends of mine and they ALL have different ways of going about germination and transplanting germinated seeds to the pot as well as views on the treatment of plants early in life. Currently I have 2 seeds germinating in a damp paper towel in a very dark area. I've been told to leave the seeds to germinate for three days and then transplant root side down into pots. My current setup is:

3 - 23watt CFL's
A roughly 4x3.5foot space (5 feet tall)
Basic nutrient enriched potting soil (I know I'm a Noob)
Miracle Grow plant food (gets mixed with water)

Please post detailed instructions for germination and early growth as well as any tips to help with sex/bud size/etc.

From what I've read from other forum posts, Miracle Grow does more harm in the late stages than good. I'm not 100% sure but there are other alternatives that are just as easy to get.

At this point the only Miracle grow product I'm using is the watering can mix-ins that create liquid fertilizer. I'm just using regular potting soil with added nutrients.
