I dont think its ur pruning skills that are the prob. But ur plant is burned. Cut back on nutes. those hydro store nutes can be way too st4ong...ur young plant has an imature root system...dont overwhelm it

Doesn't look like a proper top to me, You are cutting off he new growth and leaving the fan leaves, In the very middle where the Fan LEAVES and the Middle Stem Connect, there should be minor grwth there THAT should NOT BE TOUCHED, that is your new tops, not the fan leaves.

Let me show you:

Cut at he BLUE LINE, See where the red arrows point ? there should be minor growths inthose corners, LEAVE THAT ALONE, that is your new tops... Mine don't have nubs at all, and by the very next day you could already see the new tops coming up

thanks for your reply, but i haven't added any nutes to my water solution only thing I've done was use a strong pesticide after spotting webs from spider mites

This is my cut, The dark spot in the middle was the main stem, as you see I cut it right down to the new shoos on both sides, and it grew in nice and srong.

i thought keeping leaves moist was a good thing okay thanks for the tips guys i see i am making a lot of beginner mistakes
Moist yes, TO moist no, You want a humidity level around 40-50%, well I find that to be best for me, to much moisture can cause root rot and other various problems, you should check your humidity levels, to much or to little is a bad thing.

I know it wasn't a proper cut though, because his top is still green, still living, still trying to grow, it would start darkening and sealing off before the first day after the cut was made if it was an accurate cut

Do A LOT of research, I spent a week of researching topping, before I started doing it, just so I knew what was doing, I even took a close up picture and asked on here where I should make my cut at, there is a lot of information out there, its just trying to take it all in, I'm on my first grow, but I did TONS of research, and thanks to these forums, I have a great grow going now, so hopefully we can all get you back in shape :)

Just a tip btw, if you have a Samsung Galaxy, Go into the S Health App, and go to Comfort Level, it will give you a relatively accurate humidity / temperature reading, if you leave in the grow room for about 30 minutes. I measured it vs expensive equipment, and it was only off by 2% on humidity, and 3 Degrees on Temp, not horrible for a phone app :D

I'd probably stay focused on just growing a good plant the first couple times out the gate and leave the advanced techniques alone until you can actually grow a plant from start to finish. What's the point of trying to learn it all at once if your plant doesn't make it to harvest? That's just me though. Baby steps.

If you do it right and learn enough you can do it, I'm on my first grow, and I have LST / Topped, I have 4 Tops going "Didn't go further because I am new though." But my first run I am using Bag seed so I can experiment and not be too upset if I don't get major yields.
