With cfl grow, you need good side light. I had 3 four foot florescent shop style lights hung horizontally on back wall starting about a foot off the floor, spaced about a foot apart.
8 26 watt and 2 100 watt spiral types hanging from a bar above. But the reason i went with cfl's is because i already had shop lights, and most everything else. CFL's are pricey, so to buy everything i had, i could have bought a 600 watt grow light. But I grew some pretty nice plants, and buds were awesome. I would yield 1 and a half to two oz a plant usually,
some strains would be closer to an oz, but i was happy for what i invested. Just be aware, depending how sealed and insulated your grow spot is, a bunch of cfl lights can warm a spot up pretty good.

ok the plants are about 25 days old and there in about 1/2 gallon pots as u can see in my last post ^^^ .. i noticed when i watered this morning that the roots are poking out the drainage holes in the bottom but do not seem to be circling the bottom. is this a sign i should repot into bigger pots? i am not looking to grow huge indoor plants. the plants are not looking bad or anything .

to put it simply, you cut the topmost growth off the plant, right above where the leaves are. this will cause the plant to shoot out two tops instead of one.

I cant think of any disadvantages to topping. I top all my plants, several times during veg, mostly when it's small. These plants are pretty tough, you can bend it's branches, you can hang weights from the branches to pull them down. Like if you top your plant, let the new tops develop like at least 3 fan leaves, you can pull the new tops down and make them T shaped instead of a Y(where they come off the main stem) and all three spots where those fan leaves are will grow into tops. now you have 8 tops. keep in mind this is a lot of work and training on the plant, and you don't want to do anything too fast and break branches. There's tons of different methods for training plants, you just have to research what you want to try and give it a shot!

Those pots will last you a while mate. I'd say another couple of weeks and then maybe transplant. But keep an eye on their growth rate, they'll slow down if they're becoming root bound. Personally I'd make sure that the next transplant is the last, probs 4-5 gal pots would be best. You can transplant more but it does run the risk of stressing them out...

at what age can i sex these plants? they are about 42 days old and i think a can sex them soon. some look like there starting to get seeds and some look like white hairs. here is a pic of 1 i think is male. am i right or is that just new growth? some plants look like this and some have white hairs in the same spot

Usually a month of vegging then two months of flowering (or more depending on strain) So you could go to Flowering now and should see some preflowers in about a week or so.

UPDATE : plants are on day 50 from planted. got only 4 females out of the bunch. using the 18/6 light cycles right now with 6 100w 6500k cfls. soon to switch to 12/12 with 6 100w 2700k cfls. the 4 females are covered in white hairs or preflowers etc. any comments/advice would be awsome as i love to read the comments
