Noob Grower using AeroGarden Custom Setup

what's that on the top of your aerogarden? If it's what I think it is (reflective material) it's def not needed. Plants absorb light through the tops not bottom of leaves.

its mylar so the ag doesn't absorb light and heat up my rez temp. rez temp is sitting at 27c which is a bit more than i would like. i would like it at around 21c. my air temps are at 28c with the cupboard door open with a 28w fan blowing in and a 50 w blowing out. i want to reduce that as well to low 20s.

i'm gonna move the setup when i figure out the most cost effective method of building a sealed grow box/tent i can put in my kitchen.

If you just use the ag lights for veg u won't have to worry about rez temps. You only really need extra lights for flowering and then your plants should be so full it should be a non issue. Your rez temps are going up because of air temp not lights on the ag. And you have time to stress a grow tent it's also really only needed during flowering I'm getting either a home box sm or xs I'm buying the extra lights this week so I can get an idea of the size I need. Hopefully I helped and/or given you some thoughts to ponder with. Either way I'm subscribed and best of luck to you.

don't forget i've only got the basic ag unit with two lights. is that what you have?

i'm hoping to get faster veg by using the 2 125w than the ag hood lights.

i've been looking at the smallest homebox and it seems to suit my space needs better then the smallest budbox.

yea I have the pro 200 I guess that makes more sense but I would still just use the ag lights. Are your extra lights cfls? Do they not sell the upgrade kit in the uk?

yeah the extra lights are cfls. no they do not sell the upgrade kit in the uk. i could probably get it off ebay but i'm not that desperate.

cheers guys. just donned my sunglasses and had another look today. plants are doing fine and no more nute burns, so i guess it was just from dumping in a concentrated amount and waiting for it to mix properly with the water in the rez. had a look at the roots and they are starting to go crazy. each plant had one root going into the water but now they all have roots shooting out through the sides of the foam.

quick update and pics.

had to drain the rez yesterday, i had lots of white bits floating in it and the water felt slimy to the touch. i was also getting new growth with light green leaves and dark green veins. i nuted it back up as well.

went the the hydro store today to get a clip on fan and some ph tester. guy in the shop recommended i drain the rez again and go with just pure water, so i did. after a few hours the leaves seem to be looking better.

ph'd my tap water and the bottled water and the rez water (before changing it). the tap and bottled water look identical on ph, blue. the rez water was a slightly darker blue. a pic is attached of ph'd tap water.

looks like i'm off to the hydro store again tomorrow to get some ph down, probably some nitric acid as opposed to phosphoric acid.

Looking good mate, but are you sure you need that much cooling with x2 125? I used to veg with one only and it barely raised the temp of my cab.

hi gorlax. i could have used a smaller fan but i had bought that one at the start for an intake on my box but since i'm now using a tent it was just laying around, so i thought i'd put it to use. it's a mains powered one so need to mess around with a dc computer fan and adapter. i've found these 125 watters give off alot of heat. i don't know if they differ from the one you had or if it's because i'm using two. i've not tried using a single but seeing as how i will be using 2 red spec for flowing i thought i'd build a reflector to hold two.

Dont get me wrong more light is always better, in my next cab I am still debating on using a 400W HPS or x2 200 Envirolight. I got great results with a single Enviro for both flowering and vegging.

Looking forward to seeing your grow.

pics 19 days in.

drained rez and replaced with 1/3 recommended nutes, tap water and ph'd to 6. chopped fucked leaves off chives. yesterday i added the ag hood at the back of the tent.
