No Medium Ebb and Flow?

This is probably a dumb question, but can i use a flood and drain table, put a thick plastic material (like the type they make signs out of) on top, cut holes to fit my 2" net pots, put my drain about 2-3 inches and the fill about an inch up. This would leave about an inch of water at all times on the table. Use absolutely no medium (a side from the net pot and the inserts to hold the plant.

Or can i leave the fill level flush and just flood more often?

In both these scenarios what are the pros and cons and what kind of flood timing would be required? Im trying to have less clean up, as well as less garbage leaving the area.

I think it will work fine once you get your flood times figured out. I would guess twice an hour while they are small and maybe once an hour when they get a little bigger. The bigger root system should hold some moisture. I would rather have them too wet than too dry until you get it figured out.
