Nirvana's Northern Lights

Where I am, Northern Lights has a really good reputation, so I'm thinking maybe I ought to grow some. But I'm not sure if I should go with Nirvana, who has a reputation for making knockoffs, or sensi seeds, who have the original genetics but charge about $15 a seed. There's also a few different Northern Lights strains, ie, NL#1, NL#5, etc.

So is there anything I need to know before buying Northern Lights seeds?

Well you could go with Nirvana if you aren't concerned about quality. I would personally go with Sensi. I am a firm believer if you are gonna grow, grow the best! If you really think about it $15 a seed is a very small price to pay when the shit you grow will sell at like $50 an eighth.

why do you assume that everyone that grows sells the shit?

I am not!(guess I should have worded it differently) I am simply pointing out what you would pay for an eighth high quality nugs compared to the price of seed and the value of the potential yield off 10 seeds. It's really a no-brainer.

Yeah, with northern lights, it's as much the reputation as anything. Truth be told, I do sell it, but only to friends, and I don't charge a whole lot. But sometimes they pass it on to their friends, or pick some up for someone else. Mostly I like having a reputation for having awesome weed. :D

I guess the other question I had was, does northern lights still compare favorably to newer strains? I'm guessing it does because its reputation is so good, but I just wanted to make sure. Personally I like trying out new, interesting strains that aren't too well known, but my friends are all like, dude, get some Northern Lights, that shit is the bomb.

I guess the seed price shouldn't be off-putting. Out of ten seeds, if I conservatively assume four females and three ounces per plant, that's $40 a plant. But the bud is still worth a hell of a lot more, and I can get a lot more if I clone.

On the other hand, Northern Lights was stabilized eons ago, and is certainly not an F1 hybrid, so any knockoffs would have the same genetics as the originals.

i recently did a bit of research on nl#5 trying to find the closest version to what we in the seattle area called 'the pez'. the history of the strain is a bit of a mystery, but this is the most consistent version ive heard:

http://www.seedsman.com/en/cannabis-seeds/seedsman-seeds/seedsman-gold/northern-lights-seeds

i ended up ordering a pack of those as well as a pack of each of the 2 links below. the bc seed company and dr atomic supposedly have the most unaltered #5, which would make sense considering their proximity to the seattle area. i got all of this info from forums and random websites, so take it for what its worth.

hope this helps.

Thanks! I'm not necessarily looking for the absolute best northern lights seeds money can buy, just regular old northern lights seeds. It helps to know that it wasn't a specific seed bank that created the strain, so there isn't really a right or wrong seedbank to order from. This one seems decent:
