Nirvana Short Ryder

Anyone else trying it this year?

My thoughts so far
First auto grow, have to do them outdoors (Great lakes region). Got the seeds promptly from Nirvana and immediately went to paper towel germinating, 4/5 popped in the first 24 hours. After 48 hours the 4 that popped were put in some topsoil mix I had.
I'm about 3.5 weeks in so far and the weather has been pretty favorable, yet i've lost 2 plants in the last week. One due to stem breakage, for some reason it would just not stand up and when i went to brace it *d'oh*. The other looked to have croaked from overwatering, which is weird since the rest of the plants were fine and it never really rained anywhere close to what I would consider "a lot". Oh well.

Remaining 2 have been coming on strong, clearly enjoying a lot of direct and indirect sun exposure. Can definitely pick up faint skunky odours and their colour is a nice healthy green. They seem to like the outdoors, but these plants seem kinda frail in their seedling phase compared to photo's i've done. Logistically I couldn't start them indoors, but if i had been able to start them under a light at the beginning of may and transfer them outside after a few weeks they would likely be doing better, it's a learning experience.

Should be done at some point in August, I will keep updating this for anyone curious.

Oh damn, yours are looking pretty nice and leafy. No pics at the moment, but i'm just on my 2nd set of leaves coming in (sprout leaves fell off a few days ago) and were over 6" high, so yours are looking much better off. I'll try and get some pics up so we can get a good indoor versus outdoor comparison. FOR SCIENCE

i went with their other autos, jock horror. they grew big and yielded 1.5-2.5 oz of great dry bud per plant with 5 under a 400w hps.

i grew their short ryder plants and they did not do nearly as well

^^ Nice looking plant, hope to get 12-15 grams off mine, its my first grow and I'm using generic soil, nutes and cfls so my expectations ain't too high.

I forgot I had some images of the remaining 2 from a few days ago. They are actually around 10" tall, and yeah, busted out of the soil about 3.5 weeks ago.

I have 7 Nirvana Short Riders growing outdoors too, just in the ground not pots :) at 6weeks & 4days now. I made a grow journal from the start so you can check that out to see the progress, its in my signature :) 4 of my 7 ladies started to flower at about 6weeks, its a bit later than autos usually but growing outdoors is slower cuz u cant control the weather.

So dont worry if they dont start flowering at 3-4weeks, its more about the amount of leaf nodes & maturity of the plant than time with nirvana autos.

Good luck with ur plants and let us help each other since we are growing the same strain outdoors ;)

Sprouted May 23, Showing sex as of July 3, so it took about ~6 weeks.
Approx 20" high with 8 nodes (+more coming in).
Nice color, no pest damage, pistils present on the top 3 nodes, starting to develop a bit of a skunky odor.

Has been withstanding the absolute onslaught of hot (high 90s) and very dry weather we've been having over the last few weeks. They have been watered only about once a week and have not shown any leaf wilt or indications they are especially thirsty. It seems this strain had a rather vulnerable seedling stage but once they take, they are quite hearty.

Both are a week into flowering now, starting to swell up nicely. Noticed some overall yellowing of one plant, i'll give it a feeding and see what happens. They don't seem to have grown any taller since flowering period began (around 20" or so).

Compared to photoperiods I ran last year these are running about 6 weeks early. The Short Ryder will be done mid-late august, while my photo harvest was mid october last year.

So - I don't want to hijack this thread, but I'm growing the same strain (that's them in my "avatar") and have a few questions. How tall did everyones' Short Riders end up at harvest time? Mine are at day 45 & day 42, and they are about 40" tall! That's much bigger than what I thought they would end up. And second question - when did you all start seeing trichome development? I'm a bit concerned that I'm not seeing much of anything in this department. The buds are starting to grow together and swell up a little... but they just don't have the "frost" I'm used to seeing. Everything else looks great - they've never been over/under watered or burned by nutrients. They are completely healthy and luscious as can be. I just hope it starts packing on the trich's real soon, or it may be too late. I plan on smoking the fruit from the bigger girl, and doing something else with the smaller one.... just not sure if I want to make some canna-butter, hash, or some type of extract. At the rate the bigger one is developing, I'll have no problem pulling 1.5 OZ off her come harvest day...

I wouldn't worry about the trich development, still plenty of flowering time.

Rad looking plants though, your yield expectations seem within reason.
