NFT Growers, questions

So I've done soil, DwC, aeroponics a couple of times. I am attempting the NFT system for this first time and my kids are two weeks old and are getting yellow tips from nutrient burn. I'm running Advanced Nutrients Grow A and Grow b for veg and Bloom A, Bloom B for flower. Also using an N CAL MAG with H2O2 oxidizer. My ppm is around 200-300 right now and the PH is at 5.5-5.8 Temp gets as high as 88 and as low as 55. I have an air stone is my reservoir. I'm going to SOG train them as we'll.

Im just wondering if there is any insight that I'm missing. I'm a little concerned that my roots are just out in the open, I don't have a cover for my 3x3" tray, (should I get one?). What can I use to make my roots nice and strong?

growing with a 1000 hps and an LED light I made with a PAR of 770 in the red.

any thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? Problems you have came across with NFT?

I used to have my pots in the tray and the tray flooded with hydroton to keep the roots out of the light. You will want to cover the top of the tray until your foliage density gets up there to keep the light off the hydroton as well to avoid mold/algae setting in. If you have just put them into the NFT setup, the plants might just need a few days to adjust to the new environment. A picture or two wouldn't hurt as well to help diagnose a bit better though!

so what you're saying is "add hydrotron in my tray to cover the roots from the light"? Or....

"put my rockwool cube in a netted pot and add hydrotron to the tray to surround the pots?)

Adding pics of how I have them in the tray, as you see, I have nothing n my tray except the kids planted in the rockwool cube. The roots are barely poking out of the bottom rockwool right now. I gotta act fast.

Yeah, get rid of the plastic around the rockwol and put them in net pots. Then fill the net pots up with hydroton to support the rockwol. Then flood your whole tray with hydroton after you have them in net pots. At least, that is how I did it! Grew some baseball bat sized colas!
