The point was made earlier in the thread that only proportionality makes sense. No social scientist will talk about raw numbers. There are, by any sound reasoning, three times the incidence of welfare recipiency among blacks as among whites.
If Newt went to NAACP and talked about anything OTHER than black america then he would be a racist for that. He could have found a better way to put it, but I totally agree that blacks in america will be better off if they stop relying so much on the government and strive more for personal accomplishment and self-sufficiency. And they seem to need somebody to lecture them on that although whoever does will automatically be a racist. I recall Bill Cosby saying the same thing and they attacked him, too.

I find it kind of funny that people are really arguing that it's acceptable for Newt to single out a specific race. Really guys? Must be the same ones who argued the AZ immigration law wasn't racially charged, or that it wouldn't have discriminatory results... Newt should be able to do what he wants with HIS property. My not liking his collectivist terminology and pandering to the um "black community" is an opinion and doesn't conflict with my belief that he should be free to make a bad judgement and refuse service to somebody at HIS private proeprty. I do not endorse his beliefs but I do believe he has the right to control HIS property. The rest of us have the right not to purchase his services or endorse his behavior. I think he's a douchebag. He's free to be a douchebag as long as he does it on HIS property.

I can see a racist motive in using misleading statistics to argue that welfare isn't more of a black thing than a white thing. For decades now, we have been paying reparations under many other names. For that to continue, there has to be "discrimination" to be made up for. But WTF? We elected a black president by a wide margin. How can there be so much discrimination? Where's the evidence?
The evidence long pointed to is the fact that all manner of social ills have been far more prevalent among blacks than whites. Welfare, crime, substance abuse, unwed pregnancy, high school dropout, unemployment etc. And mind you, this is the voice of the black leaders saying this.
