Newbie about to start 1st grow

Newbie here & Im about to start on my first grow. Ive been reading different post/threads on the site gathering as much info as possible. Naturally I have alot of unanswered questions. 1st. I'd like opinions on my choice of grow kit. http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=50815 I plan on building my own grow tent in the basement. I would like it to be 4X4X8, being that my basement is low, I was thinking 4X5X6. Comments/lighting opinions?Soil question 1 gal.Ocean Forest/1 gal. light warrior/1/2 gal. Perlite/2 tbsp. domalite lime per gal. soil.(Copied from Relaxed in Hubby & wifes 3rd grow thread.) Im unable to find light warrior is there a suitable substitute? Apologies for the long thread, I just want this grow to be perfect.

Here are 2 pics of my plant. 2 different plants one is growing alot faster than the other. The items I ordered should be here tomorrow and I can build my grow tent and hopefully all will improve alot.

What kind of lighting are you using now?, what nutes do you plan to use? Upload some pics so i can check it out man. Good luck

I was using a basic CFL desk lamp when the sun wasn't out. When there was sun I had them in getting as much natural sunlight as possible. On average they were getting 18 hrs of sun a day, (CFL and nat. sunlight combined) They werent getting any nutes in the beginning I was afraid of burning them. Once they got bigger I was making a lil pocket in the dirt and spraying some MG in there. After learning that there's more to growing than just dropping them in the dirt, I purchased a whole grow kit the link is in my original post up top. Any advice about what I ordered and what I may need is greatly appreciated.
 
Yeah looks good to me, don't use any nutes til about 3-4 weeks into the grow. Even at that i would start 1/2 what the mixture calls for to see how the plants handle it. Keep the light fairly close to them make sure its not hot underneath the bulb with your hand. I want to see the finished tent when your done :weed:

No problem man, i subscribed to the thread so i will be notified to new posts : ) Glad to help another person on a grow, I'm not a master grower but I have read enough to answer most questions : D check out my closet grow and tell me what you think
 
I was also wondering where you were able to find dolomite lime, can;t seem to find anyone near me that sells it without a 30 days waiting list

I guess they just dont carry it around here. They always look at me like a stoner when i ask for mylar or cfls haha they ask me what i need them for exactly. you'd think they would just want to sell the shit but thats home depot for ya
 
look for hydrated lime, it's not always called dolomite. Also, mylar is cheap on ebay, get the 100' roll, it's the best deal per foot, & you'll have enough left to do the enevitable expansion you'll want to do in your basement after you fill a 4x4 spacce!! I started out with 2 clones about 6mo. ago, check out my grow now!!!
 
I finally got everything up and running. I would've been done sooner but I was taking it slow. Here are some pictures and some questions as well.... 1st. When can I start to determine sex? 2. I have a bottle of Tiger Bloom, Grow Big, And Big Bloom, which do I give them, and when? I've read the directions and using tomatoes as examples of plants? Then temp inside the tent is hovering around 80, is that an alright temp? Lastly, can I plant regular veggies in the tent with the MJ in there too? Thanks in advance for the replies.

They look good, but you need to lower the light they look like they are starting to stretch towards it.

Hey guys. here's an update while I wait for my other nutes and pH meter to get here. I made a few classic newbie mistakes, a lil nute burn here and one of plants has issues with its leaves hopefully everything will be alright in the end. Overall Im rather pleased considering it's my first shot at growing anything. In one of the pics I have a question about sex, is that a male or female? In the last pic, are those containers for clones or germinating seeds?

About the sex of the plant, it is to early to tell, that is just new growth coming in, later on you might get some preflowers which will be a pistil with two white hairs coming out of it. But mainly you have to wait about a week or two into flowering to tell the sex. They are looking good right now, and those cubes i'm not sure what they are exactly... doesn't look like rock wool might be for starting plants then just putting that entire cube into the ground?? Not sure give me alittle more info and i will try and give ya an answer. Take it easy :weed:
